BTFeather: I am curious, how old are you?

It says how old I am on my profile page.

I do work in a High school and one of the problems I have with my students is that they hate to think by themselves. They just read what they want to read or take what TV/rock bands tells them to think and they think that the world turns around themselves. Also most of them, the ones that do some reading, memorize some "clever" and "edgy" words to use on arguments even if they don't apply and don't face the truth: they are ignorants and happy to be ignorants. They don't care as long as they make people angry and even if they do know they are wrong they will stick to their illogical but clever arguments. When you said that you never played the game, says that wii gamers are cult and said that "you don't want to think by yourself" but prefer to read others opinions (in other words, you prefer people to think like you), you just reminded me my students.

Of course, they are 16-18.

Well as Scatman Crother's character Mr. Bloom says in Speilberg's Twilight ZoneThe Movie, being young at heart is what really matters.

There's a HUGE difference between being young and being immature. Being young is keeping a bit of our childhood/teenage years innocence and amazement. Being immature is being irrational, rude, ignorant and being proud of it.

Why do Wii fans care so much if IGN or any other magazine cares about Wii Music? IGN is filled with regular people that happen to review games for a living. If they hate Wii Music it's their opinion and they have every right to bad mouth it in the magazine they work for.

Because if they resort to these kinds of childish acts like 'whining' and 'venting', then they shouldn't be getting paid to review games or influencing thousands upon thousands of people.

Having an opinion is one thing, but seeing that the industry is going in a different direction than what you think is should be and then whining about it is quite another.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I'm half tempted to buy Wii Music just because Matt hates it. Then I can email him a scan of the receipt.

Alright, I have been lurking on this site with a membership for over a year now, but this topic has inspired my first post:

To preface,

-I am a 26 year old who has played video games for 2 decades

-My tastes in video games are about as diverse as it gets.  I enjoy pretty much any genre.

-I am a Wii and DS owner.  I had an NES and subsequently a SNES between the ages of 6 and 12. I was big into PC gaming when I was a teenager, but then it started to become too expensive to constantly have to upgrade the computer to keep up with computer gaming; when the Gamecube price went down to $99 I thought it was a great opportunity to get back into video game consoles.

-An added bonus of me owning a Wii, is the wife enjoys playing it.

Anyways, on to the topic at hand.  I own Wii Music and think it is an absolutely great game; as an avid Blues Guitar and Harmonica player, I really enjoy the freedom it gives you when you play any selection.  Unlike Guitar Hero/Rock Band (which I also enjoy), you do not have to play fixed notes (getting penalized when you miss one).  Anybody who plays music or even has some sense of rhythm can really enjoy this game.

Matt Cassamania seems to be the kind of guy who is probably tone deaf and has absolutely no rhythm.  Articles like this really take away any shred of legitimacy the gaming media has left.

The problem with the gaming media is they have created the false dichotomy of Casual and hardcore gamers.  I would be considered "hardcore" because of the time I dedicate to video games, however I often contradict this classification as I spend a fair chunk of my gaming time playing "casual" games.  Yet I also really enjoy games like No more Heroes (I am particular to Suda ever since Killer 7).  End of the day there are many different types of gamers, not just two.

Wii Music may not be for everyone, but anyone who enjoys playing music and has even a decent sense of timing and rhythm can enjoy the game alot.

Enjoy th weekend everybody.

Excellent first post JimmytheT. Here's hoping we'll hear more from you in the future. =)

IGN writters where a lot partialized with Rockband/guitar hero, and Wiimusic lacks of some new perifal, making looks more like a bad bet against other games.

I don´t like Wiimusic, Guitar hero or Rockband, but i don´t think Wiimusic it´s a idiotic clonic game, i watch it like a new game in the gender of rithms.

If they hate Wii Music it's their opinion and they have every right to bad mouth it in the magazine they work for. Just like Wii fans have every right to go online and post or blog about how great the game is. Wii fans remind me of all the Sony fans from the PSX and PS2 generations in that just because their system of choice happens to be selling the most that every website and magazine should give every game on that system amazing reviews and if they don't then they suck and have no credibility.

A review is by definition an opinion but it should be  knowledge based opinion and most definitely not be a personal preference based opinion.

I often write reviews on plays and works of literature that I do not personally like but that doesn’t mean that my review is negative. If I didn’t like the book because it is poorly written, badly organized, filled with factual errors, in my professional opinion, then I will describe those faults and give it the lousy rating it deserves.

If I didn’t like the book just because I don’t like that genre, then that should not affect my score. The fact that I may personally hate science fiction, or westerns or whatever does not make them poor quality or any less appealing to those who do like that type of book. As long as I describe the book accurately, they will know if it is a genre that appeals to them, whether it does to me is totally irrelevant.

Also, I review works that I would never enjoy because they are not written for me at all. I don’t read children’s books, should I belittle and trash all childrens’ books. Of course not. I score it on the basis of what it is.

I recognize that there is a huge market for romantic fiction that frankly put’s me to sleep – once again irrelevant. Women don’t need or want to know that a man didn’t enjoy a work obviously oriented to them, not me. What they need to know from me is was the plot good, the writing fresh and skillful, things like that.

That is how it’s done in most fields. In gaming, the reviewers for the most part, fail to acknowledge that there is anybody playing games that is not like them, so if they don’t personally enjoy it, it’s crap. Should the fact that 30-40% of gamers are female influence them. Nope, if it’s girly, it’s crap. Has anyone ever even seen a female game reviewer outside of G4, where they always have a male at their side to make sure they get it right.

Lots of games are written primarily for children. Then what you get is not a review describing why this is a good game for children and why they might like it. Not bloody likely, usually they write it from their little position in the center of the universe. Something like, “nothing in this game is likely to appeal to anyone over 12 – BAD SCORE! And that is what they consider a review.

This is unprofessional, and it’s complete and utter crap.

I second that. Well said and a very relevant and useful insight.

ha yea if I had a steady job and wasn't still in school I would go and buy it just because of this article of theirs (or quote).

It is just rediculous, and totally immature and IGN lost all respect from me.  I haven't been going to IGN for over a year now (besides going to check release dates) but now because of this I am not even gonna go there for release date info because I don't want any hits from me to them.

Not that I think Wii music deserves a better score or anything, I have never palyed and not interested in the game.  But a place that reviewed the game as wanting the game to fail and never giving it a chance, and then later when it succeeds they are pissed and say they failed in making the game fail is no place that I support.  I don't care if the game is Barbies horse racing or whatever.  Their whole attitude is unnacceptable.
