Why do Wii fans care so much if IGN or any other magazine cares about Wii Music? IGN is filled with regular people that happen to review games for a living. If they hate Wii Music it's their opinion and they have every right to bad mouth it in the magazine they work for. Just like Wii fans have every right to go online and post or blog about how great the game is. Wii fans remind me of all the Sony fans from the PSX and PS2 generations in that just because their system of choice happens to be selling the most that every website and magazine should give every game on that system amazing reviews and if they don't then they suck and have no credibility.

A review is by definition an opinion but it should be knowledge based opinion and most definitely not be a personal preference based opinion.
I often write reviews on plays and works of literature that I do not personally like but that doesn’t mean that my review is negative. If I didn’t like the book because it is poorly written, badly organized, filled with factual errors, in my professional opinion, then I will describe those faults and give it the lousy rating it deserves.
If I didn’t like the book just because I don’t like that genre, then that should not affect my score. The fact that I may personally hate science fiction, or westerns or whatever does not make them poor quality or any less appealing to those who do like that type of book. As long as I describe the book accurately, they will know if it is a genre that appeals to them, whether it does to me is totally irrelevant.
Also, I review works that I would never enjoy because they are not written for me at all. I don’t read children’s books, should I belittle and trash all childrens’ books. Of course not. I score it on the basis of what it is.
I recognize that there is a huge market for romantic fiction that frankly put’s me to sleep – once again irrelevant. Women don’t need or want to know that a man didn’t enjoy a work obviously oriented to them, not me. What they need to know from me is was the plot good, the writing fresh and skillful, things like that.
That is how it’s done in most fields. In gaming, the reviewers for the most part, fail to acknowledge that there is anybody playing games that is not like them, so if they don’t personally enjoy it, it’s crap. Should the fact that 30-40% of gamers are female influence them. Nope, if it’s girly, it’s crap. Has anyone ever even seen a female game reviewer outside of G4, where they always have a male at their side to make sure they get it right.
Lots of games are written primarily for children. Then what you get is not a review describing why this is a good game for children and why they might like it. Not bloody likely, usually they write it from their little position in the center of the universe. Something like, “nothing in this game is likely to appeal to anyone over 12 – BAD SCORE! And that is what they consider a review.
This is unprofessional, and it’s complete and utter crap.
