Forums - Nintendo - Is Red Steel really that bad?

The controls really sucked, the framerate dipped into the low tens at times, the graphics ranged from pretty to butt ugly, and there was no online multiplayer.

The game was pretty bad.

I did enjoy the Japanese theme it had going on, the overall level design was pretty good. Everything else kind of sucked.

Around the Network

It's not terrible. It's just not particularly good either.

The aiming and movement compared to any good FPS on wii is god awful. It's sluggish as hell and feels like you're moving in a big vat of molasses. It was very uneven in it's quality of graphics and level design, the swordfighting was terrible, the story was cookie cutter action almost non-existent, the voice acting wasn't even B movie quality. The enemies were dumb as hell, the guns were uninteresting, there just wasn't really anything great about it.

Is it a bad game? No, it's perfectly playable, there is some fun to be derived from it, but that can be said of a hell of alot of games. It's not a travesty, but it's not going to be remembered as a highlight of the wii's line up and I would never recommend it to some one who just bought a wii and asks "What games should I buy".

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

It had a cool theme though the story ended up being pretty cheesy in the end. You can get used to the controls if you remember that a swipe will register as a swipe and waggling like a maniac will cause the swing to reset. There's also a pretty cool honor system that builds your reputation if you spare opponents after sword combat. I'd say rent and see if you like it first.

The push to zoom thing had to be the dumbest idea in control since... well, ever. Not the worst game I ever played, but I think it holds a lot of blame for scaring FPS's off the Wii.
