Well in a pure genius phase, namco only released episode 2 in europe ... But it was a terrible rpg, so slow, so boring, terrible characters ... And yeah, it was called "jenseits von gut und bose ..."

Be a smart dude, and import an NTSC console like I did or mod your PAL one. Many good JRPG's weren't released in EU (among them is the brilliant Xenogears) and that's why I have an NTSC PS2. Xenogears ftw.

Disgaea and Atelier Iris. The first one is a borefest and the latter one crappy. I´ve played worse on PC but I don´t recall the names, only a recent one: Drakensang.

I think I will have to go with Dragon Quest VIII. everything about it was so dated, esp. the save system which made me angry. I finally just couldn't play it anymore because it was so boring and frustrating.
