I just read the review. Their complaints were mostly about the lack of character in your companions, but as they say, they don't really notice when they are being shot at from a hundred different angles. Their other main complaint is about the massive difficulty spike at the end of the game
Oh, and they spoiled several of the secrets in the game, though they had been spoiled by various places already... they aren't major things anyway

the multiplayer portion must be pretty good then
good score so far, i'll predict 94% on metacritic |
It doesn't matter. A game without strong narrative should not recieve a 90+ score. Narrative standards in games seem to be lower than for movies and books, and most reviewers and developers have been putting gameplay before storyline. That should not be promoted by essentially rewarding such games and developers with such high scores, forgiving major faults such as a weak plot.

So all mario games should be sub 90s? There is a reason that games tend to have a weaker storyline than books, it is because it is not the only thing keeping people interested. That is the reason that gameplay is placed above storyline, if you want a very deep storyline, and you place that above gameplay, then you should go and watch a film. I am not sure how good the storyline is, because I haven't played it, but of course maybe they just didn't talk about it because they had more things to talk about it. The main concern with Killzone 2 was not that it would not have a great story, but whether it would play well, and that it does
If you want a good backstory, go to Killzone.com there is a massive amount of information there, it is fascinating

But games are NOT books or films. Should books and films be given low marks because they have very weak (actually, non-existant) gameplay?
I think the narrative in Tetris sucks. Wii Sports too ... that'll never catch on.
