Wow! So Sony says the PS3 could do 3D in 2010... hmm... looks like MS is a year ahead yet again! And some people were saying "This 3D stuff can only be done on PS3 with the Cell!!!!"

Pfft.

I also beleive they were talking about actual PS3 games being 3D not movies,  and I doubt that Sony couldnt get a firmware update to allow for 3D Content to be played.  And with 3D Blu-Ray titles they would be true 1080p HD.

It sounds like it's mostly for movies. I'm not really interested in 3D movies but am quite interested in 3D gaming. It's still a race to see which one is the first to put out 3D gaming.

I apologize,  I didnt mean it really.

I have got a 46" Full-HD LCD and this is not enough to view this right?

So I say: Lets wait another generation before we actually think about this being mass market. Heck HDTV isn't even established.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Anyone who thinks only the PS3 can play 3D games needs to check out Johnny Chung Lee's Wii video.

OT: This is a great addition to the Xbox 360.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

You need 60FPS to do this, very few games render at that rate. Its ironic but I do believe the Wii has more suitable games at this moment in time for 3d rendering.

Tease.

The article is talking about movie encoding, not games, and it says "all platforms" as well as "PC and 360 this spring".

You guys need to read a little closer, I think.  This says nothing about the PS3 not having this movie encoding, nor does it say much at all about 360 3D games.  As a matter of fact, it specifically mentions that this company's tech uses the GPU in the decoding of movies -- whereas the CES PS3 demos were games, running in real-time, on PS3s.

Big difference.  Huge even.  3-D movies of the blue/red variety, in 480i, have been available for eons.  The fact that they may be able to put a regular 1080p movie, with a new, optional, 3D depth track, on a Blu-Ray disc, or encoded in high-def online movies, is... a minor new boon at best, IMO.

Will the games have to be specially designed/developed to run in 3D?

There would be little difference in making the 360 play 3D games and movies.  If the tech uses the GPU like it says, then games could easily be built to do this on the 360 as well.  And since this technology is springing (tada!) onto the 360 officially, before the PS3, it is likely that MS could make 3D games before Sony.  Perhaps this is partially what MS is talking about when they say they have lots of innovation in store for the 360 in 2009.

Just imagine it... 3D Netflix HD streaming... that would be awesome!  And the only console to officially support it would be the 360!  Cha-Ching!!!  Ignorance they say??? Pfft to that.  Of course the PS3 is capable of it, just as the 360 is..... no one ever said the PS3 couldn't do it... merely that MS may beat them to it yet again.
