Forums - Gaming - My story why I chose XBox 360 over PS3

I am not disappointed with my XBox 360 purchase and I am actually a bit surprised at how much I  do like it so far! But that's not why I decided to post this. This is about me being a big Sony console fan for years and years, but in spite of that turning to the competitor for my newest console. To begin with, I don't believe that the Xbox 360 is better than the PS3 in every or most ways or vice versa. I pretty much have figured out that there are pros and cons for both. By a small amount, XBox has the edge though and I'll tell you why it won my heart.

When we went out shopping to get our newest console (I already have a Wii at home and love that one) before Christmas, we were talking about the PS3, and my heart was set on it TBH. Why?

1. I've loved the systems that Sony has made up to now, including the psp although I don't own one anymore (this is only due to the fact that my hands cramp up trying to play games on any hand held, but less so on the DS actually).

2. Since Blu-Ray is the new format for movies we figured getting a player was in order. Why not a console at the same time?

3. The graphics for PS3 are better, albeit ever so slightly but nonetheless better. of course that's just my opinion. I don't claim to be the graphics critic, just what I've seen I liked.

4. I am interested in many of the exclusives for PS3. I'm sure there are a couple more things. So why the change in spite of that? The PS3 is "effing" expensive! Ridiculously so, too! For a system, that, in my mind is only slightly better in graphics, has only a few exclusives this time around and whose library isn't nearly as large as the competitors, I ask why? Why Sony? Seems to me that Sony's dark elitist nature has reared its ugly head. I'm sorry but its a great looking system and I honestly know that when the price comes down, I'll be reconsidering but for now, its just too much.

5. We evaluated getting the PS3 with an 80 GB hard drive and compared it with the xbox 360 pro with a 60 GB hard drive + 2 games (more stuff with it but really the deciding factor was the games that my kids by the way, love) First off, the Xbox was already $100 cheaper with only a slightly smaller HDD. But you have to consider that the games that came with it could be anywhere from $100 to $120 sold separately.

So the deciding factors were:

1. We saved about $200+ on the console.

2. We decided that the number of great exclusives for PS3 is not big enough to make a difference.

3. The console itself wasn't outrageously better in any way.

4. The PS3 library still isn't up to par with xbox 360.

5. Finally, a large number of the games that are out there are now coming out on both systems anyway, so a lot of the library isn't being missed at all. so that's just my take. Honestly I hope Sony makes some changes to its marketing. NOT to beat out the others but to really fully stay in the game. Sony's been good to me so far... so I am rooting for them!..

Well, yeah a lot of former PS2 owners (whether they were Sony fans or not) went with a 360 or Wii this generation.

I almost went with a 360, but in the end, Sony´s 1st/2nd party titles won me over, since the vast majority of 3rd party titles I want are multiplatform anyway.

check out my sig !!
ive been a SONY since ps1 and ridge racer from 1996 !
but i couldnt lie to myself this gen , i had more fun on the 360 than the ps3 .
i have both consoles but 75% of my gaming is on the 360 !
BUT !!! im sur that will change when i get my hands on KZ2 that is one frikkin sweet FPS

i chose PS1 over saturn only because PS1 came with a demo disk and saturn was just the console. Thank god for that demo disk, lol

Playstation has and had the best games

i get you, but i like to game without worries and  some of my friends had their 360 RROD, i will pay more if it last longer, i agree the ps3 is too expensive, and that made me angy from the first day, i was specting the wii to satisfy my gaming need since is reliable, but when i saw wii sports, wii fit , wii play and the way third parties were going i started to doubt, then the ps3 started to get more third party support and i decided it was a safe investment and it as almost the same games as the 360. At the end reliability was too important to be ignored, im still thinking of gettin a wii when there are more metroids, zeldas and "real" marios in it.

from my gamers view:

Both systems have greate exclusives- tie
Multiplatform - tie, with trend to xbox360 ( sometimes technical issues on PS3, i.g. Orange Box)
Online - tie: PS3 has no fee, but service is not so good - 360 has fee, but better service
System - PS3, because less technical problems and PS3 is quiet compared to X360
Price - X360, don't have to explain. Yes, I know, Sony lately said PS3 is cheaper...stfu.

I would chose X360 because there is a warrenty for technical problems and 150-200$ more for a system which is only not as loud as its competitor is too much-for me.

I chose PS3 over 360 because it had Sony's first party.

Hmm really? If you mean Lego+ Panda set it has been selling beetween 15 and 30 euro here after the MS started bundling it.

Just wanted to comment on your price thingy (concerning the games). Don't most stores carry bundles with either an additional game or dualshock? (negating your point that you save on those games) And aren't those two games (kung fu and that other) cheaper anyway?

I chose ps3 over 360 because of BC and FFXIII (now a moot point). I like continuity in my collection since I still buy/play old PS era games and just can't go back to using ps2 to play anything. When you try playing ps2/ps1 games with a ps3, you'll understand why.
