Forums - Sales - Is Square-Enix making a mistake making 360 there go to system for rpgs?

They shunned nintendo because its last two systems bombed. Sony was on a winning streak so they just blindly bet on them.

About why they didn't move a finger in 2007? I do believe for some reason moving their projects to the Wii was finantially troublesome (maybe they already had a considerable amount of art assets created, maybe they were deep already into design decisions that made the game not suitable for the Wii, shrug). They are very worried about FF13's results and most of his movements in the past years can be tracked to a very conservative approach on how to maximize FF13's profits.

I agree with you their ways are hurting them but at least they can churn out remakes to keep the company alive.

well exclusivity timed or not its hurting them they either changed completely multiplatform, and the have given microsoft many exclusives already.

ps360 route would have been better, a same day release would have made TLR maybe crack 1 million by  now. that or killing 360 sales like GTA4, FiFa 2009, or gundam musou in japan did.

That must be it.  Because I just can't see one company so totally dependant on the Japanese market pretty much saying 'here's a bunch of DS remakes, now BUY A XBOX OR FU'!

Its no secret that the reason everyone went into this generation behind the 360 and PS3 was because no one thought the Wii would do anything.  Heck, people still think the Wii is just 2 GCs fused together with a tacky WiFi option.  However, as the old saying goes, Money speaks louder than words.  Or in this case, the lack of it should be ringing loudly in their ears as it falls on the Wii.

^^ It's long due for another Mana or Chrono game. I don't care which system they develop it for, they should work on one.

Not really... IU was to be originally published by MS, they gave it to SE hoping it would bolster sales (or at least that was the official reason given). TLR is a multiplatform game, either you believe they had troubles with the ps3 side of development (which sorta makes sense) or you have to get into the eerie territorry of conspiracy theories.

The only real exclusive from SE is SO4. And that was Tri-Ace's choice and it happened because through IU Microsoft bankrolled the engine that will power SO4 making it extremely cheap to develop.

I just want them to port Seiken Densetu 3 to the DS.  Like they did Chrono Trigger.  But with 3 player WiFi Support and the fact that America/Europe never got the game....it should have been a no-brainer by now.  Aside from the fact that no advertising and a host of bad Mana games have made sales for the series in America rather dismal.

It's a multi-platform engine, the devolopement probably didn't even started on a Xbox 360.

Link?

They are using IU engine (as stated in their latest IGN interview) and that was a MS funded development.

You telling me they allocated budget to multiplatform tech for two single platform releases (IU and SO4)?

By the way, I see SO2 and SO3 on your profile and you are a ps3/wii owner. Unhappy about how things turned out for the sequel?

edit: just curiosity, why did you pick zaplana as your avatar?

I loved Star Ocean 2 and the two Valkyria Profile games, but Star Ocean 3 and Radiata Stories where just good. It will eventually come out on the PS3, and if doesn’t come out I will likely buy someday a 360, but at this moment it just doesn’t have enough games for me that justifies it.

Because he’s one of the few politics that I trust.

Interesting interview!

Still, there's something wierd... they made the engine for IU a one console exclusive bankrolled by a console maker. They release the next game using a polished version of that engine on that same console, which means the total dev cost of SO4 for Tri-Ace is really low. There's no mention neither of your statement that it started development in a different platform, uinless you refer to very early design work.

Anyways, why would you trust a politician that has been caught stating that he's into politics to pad his wallet? Heck, he is no longer in office.

When the game was announced they said it was coming to the nextgen-systems, for a couple of months we didn’t know to which platforms it was coming, and I think that during this time period Microsoft made a deal with S-E to hold back the PS3 version, but hey, it’s just the impression that I have and I could be wrong. Anyway, most next-gen RPG’s have started there development on the PC, since the developers didn’t have development kits for the nextgen consoles.

Every politic enters politics for two reasons. One is power and the other is money and Zaplana is no exception, but I agree with most of his ideas and without people like him I won’t vote the national popular party again. I will still vote for Esperanza Aguirre in Madrid for 2011 and the candidate from UPyD for mayor. Yes, I hate Gallardón.
