Forums - Sales - Forbes: Sony is Screwed...Is this article accurate?

@superchunk-
I agree completely. I'm just hoping that Sony doesn't start to cut funding to their in house developers. Even though I don't own a PS3 I think that the competitions creates better games and more unique experiences. I mean I still can't wait to see the next project from the ICO team and I would hate to hear that Sony cut funding.

I agree a little with those who said all this is flaming against Sony. Just because it is not an economic website. Anyway is good to discuss this things to know about the future of the companies that offer digital entretainment, just don't make doom predictions without foundations. (I'm not attacking anyone just an advice)

What are you saying ? If the study of (video-game) sales in not economy, what is it ?

This web focus to gamers. Thats what I mean

What? This sight deals with sales numbers, which definately falls in the economic realm. And as a gamer myself, I would like to know the future of the game systems and the games that will be featured on these systems. If the companies that either make games or hardware are suffering financially, this will affect me as a gamer. Please explain how this is "flaming."

It's flaming just when someone makes tragical predictions without foundantions as I said before. All we are concerned about the financial situation of Sony, but a 16 years old gamer is not the right person to speak about it.

It's my opinion if you don't agree I'm ok with that.

Did you read the article? There are plenty of foundations to work with. In fact, one reason there are so many of these types of threads is because so many financial/news sources are reporting on Sony's poor financial position.

And I agree that "16 year old gamer"s don't have much authority on these types of matters, but you are just stereotyping and belittling everyone on here with that kind of talk. Do you really think everyone on here is that age and that level of maturity? I for one am 22 and in grad school and am pretty well versed in American ecnomic history. Does this make me some type of authority on video game sales? No, if it did I sure wouldn;t be sharing my expertise on a website free of charge. i do however, enjoy speculating and analysing numbers and data, and other well formed opinions, to see where the market is going. If you want to talk about games seperate from economics (which seems to me what you are advocating) then might I suggest heading over to System Wars forum on Gamespot. You'll have a blast.

Finally, and not to be a jerk, but the fact that you end your rebuttal with a postscript that it is "your opinion" is irrelevant. If you are so uninterested in agreement, then why did post in the first place? Presumably it was to espouse your point of view in an effort to persuade other readers of its validity. If this as not your goal, and instead you wanted to simply write for the sake of the act itself, then might I suggest a blog as the appropriate forum. The whole point of an online forum is to have arena where people can interact and counter each others points and arguments, or add supportig arguments to existing ones. The fact that you belittle your own post to mere opinion that anyone can take or leave without any intellectual engagement worries me, quite frankly.

I'd suspect that this lose is made by mostly consumer electronic divsions of Sony since gaming division most probably posted profit or breaking even in Q4.

PROUD MEMBER OF THE PSP RPG FAN CLUB

Ok this is their first full-year loss . The smaller Toshiba has a forecast loss that is at the upper end of the SONY forecast and all japanese electronic giants have more or less the same share drop.
Sounds like a japanese problem. In other words times are hard for Japanese companies. (Its no coincidence that the better positioned rival is Samsung a korean company)
For Sony they should get rid of a variety of pet projects. Nobody buys walkmen anymore get over it. You were not able culturally to make content available as Apple did so they have to pay the price. The same is true for lots of the small niches they are still in. They make almost every electronic device for christ sake.

Wow lots of doom and gloom for Sony. It's their first major bad year since the 50's, I'm sure they will pull through. It's not like the're asking for a Government bail out...

This is just one of those times when multinationals ultimately are more damaged. Deep down i feel more sorry for the company that invented the WALKMAN, than the company that pretty much invented the Zune.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

This article stinks of the "Blu-Ray is dead!" yammerings of recent history, followed by the "Oops, Blu-Ray is growing by leaps and bounds!" articles of even more recent history.  If you were trying to get the public to dump Sony stock for cheeps, pandering this kind of BS to financial news would be exactly the way to do it... right before the earnings announcements.

@dhummel

You feel attacked with my post that was not my intention. I know many people in here really cares about economic news and can have really good ideas to post.

Posting in here about economic issues of electronic entertainment is ok. I don't know how to make you understand that I'm not against this thread I just wanted to say that making predictions about financial issues needs some kind of foundantions and everyone should have that in mind.

I'm not saying that everyone in here is unable to write a consistent post, some people really do a great job writing their statements.

Is my english this bad?

I know... my english sucks

@Groucho -
I don't see how it is related. And I don't think that most of us think Sony is going to die from this, but worry what impact it will have on us as gamers. Sony makes many great games and in thus M$ and Nintendo look at those games and use some elements to make their own great games. If Sony's gaming division is hurt it hurts all gamers.

Right, because Bloomberg, American Press, Reuters, Nikkei, Forbes all want to beat Sony stock down so they can buy it for cheap...
