Forums - Microsoft - Star Ocean 4 hype thread #3: Score and Lifetime sales

Scorewise, to be perfectly honest, I believe it all comes down to how it runs technically. TLR is a fantastic game from what I heard, but it got smashed by critics thanks to huge technical problems with the review copies.

Infinite Undiscovery as well had a bit of framerate issues, and so its score got  lowered a good deal for that. I can't say whether its a good game or not, I've had to cut back since Gears 2 to save money for SO4 after all ;_;

Well anyway, after looking at recent combat videos, there appears to be little to no in game framerate issues during battles that I can see; so as far as the game goes technically, looking like it does is a masterpeice. I foretell big points scored from the graphics.

If combat is even a shadow of SO3's Tales-esqe ( ;) ) battle system then it'll win some great acclaim there.

So what it seems to me that the score will be boiling down to is the story, levels, length and all around presentation, if the graphics are all good (which they seem to be). We know as far as CGI goes SO4, like FFXIII, has the same studio working behind them for CGI so its going to be absolutely top-knotch.

Still, I foresee many a reviewer complaining about the fact that its a prequel, even though they may not directly say this, but rather hint at it as they go.

Oh well. I'm gonna set my sights a bit low on the score and say that it'll get in the 84-89 range, though wouldn't it be amazing if it became the first AAA(critically, anyway. To me Vesperia is already AAAAAA.) JRPG on the 360? Kewl.

As for sales....uh, well, I guess I hope for 1 mil before LO hits it. Thats being optimistic, but hey, set your sights high and whatnot.

So anyway, what do you think the score(meta) and sales LTD are gonna be for Star Ocean 4?

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

This will easily outsell Blue dragon in Japan as its an established franchise over their,and it has the words Square Enix. 300k in Japan. US 350k. Others 200k. 850k life time. Side note, Xbox will sell 50k a week for over a month when its released in Japan.

As Zenfoldor, I demand that you not hype this.

If asked by a PS3 fan, you will respond that SO4 sucks.

If prodded, you say, WKC will be the best game ever and sell 5 million copies.

That is all. Overhyping is an ignorant mistake that our small Xbot fanboy group can't afford to make. They have too many trolls and alt accounts to kick us if we ever fall down. Use your head.

I don't need your console war.

You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Man I wish I had hair like those anime characters. So awesome.

Anyways my guess is about 750k- 1.25 million lifetime for SO4. It's hard to imagine the 360 American/European owners who seem to be finicky about JRPGs will really pick this up in masses. Of course they are suckers for mainstream advertising so that could give them a push. About 250k-300k in Japan.

As for scores, I expect reviews to be in the 80s. American and European developers have been pretty biased against JRPGs so its going to be hard for it to get a really good cumalitive score.

Hmm, only 350k in US? I'd think it'd be more then that :P

I'm not quite sure about 50k in Japan for a month, but that'd be pretty amazing if it does

@ Zenfolder:

;_;

Never! WE SHALL NOT BE SILENCED! 360 JRPGS 4EVA!

More importantly, Star Ocean and Tales forever. But yeah I'll take whatever they can throw at me. Hell they may force me to bring in my secret weapon if neccesary...

@Zucas:

Yeah, thats why it potentially wound't do too great in scores. Thing is, Star Ocean 4 is far more like Final Fantasy from videos then any other JRPG this gen, and you know how reviewers get around Final Fantasy!

lol, dude, off topic a little bit here, but be careful. If you took that kind of talk to some of the less patrolled, and darker forums on the internet, you would get pwnded so hard, the room would stink.

Metascore: 81

Sales: depends on how it will perform in North America, I am not expecting good sales from either Japan or Europe (200-250k in each) So if american 360 owners will accept the game (SO3 was very successfull in NA) then it will surpass one million. If not then 700-800k worldwide. I am going to guess they will so my prediction is 1.1 million worldwide.

But they do have cool hair.  That's why they make them like that because it's awesome.  Not like I care what a few people who haven't seen sunlight for a few years think anyways.  So I won't be careful haha.

lol, I have thought long and hard upon your post, and decided that it is probably a fair guess, but I can't keep my mind off your avatar. Serious question, how could anyone like Neverwinter Knights enough to make it their avatar?

Back on topic. Hope it's great. Probably will suck and sell like crap. If it doesn't, Sony fans get mildly pwnd(in my fiendish mind). WKC has a much harder road to hoe before it could be considered a success. That is simply the cost of being a PS3 exclusive. You will be hellishly overhyped.
