I understand why Nintendo won't allow us to run VC and WW games off an SD-card, but why not savegames?

I mean, all past systems did it that way, and with the enormous memory shortage, why not on the Wii? It would save a VC game or two on the system memory for me, even.

Yeah, it is really simple for them to just let it run saved games...

But why didn't they let us play VC games from the SD card in the first place? I never understood that...
