if you say so
All this whining about console sales. frankly some users on this site seem to spend more time on vgc hating on the ps3/sony than even playing any games. Seems to me that your console(s) of choice may be boring...but they sold extraordinarily well right? lol
@Snake612
You're one heck of an optimist man. I realized sony was probably going to stay 3rd during the period the 360 actually outsold the ps3 in Japan. As irrelevant as the JP console market is, that was the dawn of the 360's newfound momentum.
"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)
"WAR is a racket. It always has been.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
I am sorry but i really do have to laugh snake. What you dont realize is 50% of the 360's sales are from the arcade or whatever they call it now. Then the other 50 is split between the premium 2nd most popular 360 then the elite. The ps3 is alot more expensive then the 360 and is only 80k units below it this week.
I would also like to point out that the 360 really cannot get much cheaper. as for the ps3 it is like 300 in the UK 400 US. That is like the price of a console at launch and it is 2 years in its life. it has sold like what 3mil+ more then the 360 at the same time in its life time.
because of the 360's cheap price it can only have the most minimal of price-cuts which are not goig to have a really big effect because the console is already dirt cheap. So to be honest the price gap between the 360 and the ps3 cannot get any wider.
It is a known fact that the ps3 would pwn 360 in sales if the prices were closer, previous sales data proves it. So just to be frank a 200 pound ps3 will sell more then a 130 pound 360 or in US case 300-200 respectively.
so the ps3 is like 300 pounds now and is going to be selling 100k+ every week this year. a price cut for the ps3 will raise sales dramatically because it is expensive. the 360 is cheap already so any price cut now will have minimal impact on sales.
so in short the ps3 has more potential for greater sales, and will get them sooner or later when it has a price cut.

even Microsoft can spend a ton of cash. There is still a point where even if they make minor profit stockholder wont will expect more. Microsoft's entertainment division still has to pay off the original Xbox's hole too so wait and see. |
No it doesn't.
Look up "sunk costs" in any Economics text book.
Microsoft's stock price already takes into account the accepted loss of the Xbox 1 investment.

I have to disagree with you there. Microsoft has not got second place in the war just yet.
If the 360 outsells a $299 PS3, I will admit that the PS3 will finish in third.
Well, PS3 might get 3rd. Does that mean you can't enjoy the console?
It's known the Wii will get 1st in sales. The race for 2nd place is just a big measuring contest. In the HD consoles (PC, PS3, 360), PC is by far the weakest link of the three.
3rd or 2nd, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the console. PS3 is still #1, Xbox 360 #2, and Wii #3 for me as a gamer. But, some people like bashing the PS3 (or any console - but PS3 I see the most) more than they enjoy gaming. Time for some Hater-aid, I say.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

my ps3 broke :(
Any way, in a month or so It will be fixed, yay! But, I used to defend nintendo hard core back in the GC days, but now during nintendos success I've realised I love gaming, not nintendo, and with that I'm able to apreciate gaming at its heart and not be swayed by radical fanboyism like I used to be. It also means that the nintendo victory that I long awaited for is no longer an exciting triumph, its just pleasent lol. which is nice :) It's good to be humbled by defeat. my defeat came in the form of nintendo offering me next to nothing this gen, so I had to let nintendo go and leave behind everything I defended, along with my fanboyism. Now I just love playing games!!!!! YEAH!!!! rock on!!! IVE BEEN FREED!!!
If at first you don't succeed, you fail

Don't lie.
Thats when you say, "If the Xbox 360 outsells a $199 PS3, I will admit that the PS3 will finish in third."
It's not likely the PS3 will be $299 before 2010 anyway.

Just speak in the language they understand, speak of the 11 year and one day plan Starcraft.
