Well China has these incredible high taxes on "foreign" videogameconsoles.. up to a few hunderd dollar.. henche no one is bringing them into China.. There is demand... as seen in Hong Kong and all the illegal smuggeling from there and from Japan into China.. Or look at chinese auction sites.. When China drops those taxes consoles will sell a lot there.. But hey.. who needs a wii if you have a Vii and a Winner!

Just like Russia I believe China will spawn PC game developers pretty soon (within 5-6 years).

From there on they'll migrate to console game developing (a decade from now) and eventually beat Japan in game development (within 2 decades).

Until they keep eating dogs and cats, that won't happen.

China's global market position will be forced yes... but they wont begin to really feel the pressure for another 20 years, and even then they would have to have made many mistakes along the way in order to not be self-sufficient enough to revert back to their socialistic/psuedo-communism.

Well they are already there.. but all are making MMO games for the domestic market.. Cause of exporting rules & the size of the market... WOW has 10 million subscribers... 1.5 million are from China.. yes.. 1.5 million... So many Chinese PC companies are making MMO's.. and quite succesfully.. a good game has at least 1 million subscribers.. like the games from http://www.ga-me.com.. MMO's are hot in China..

too much piracy. home market is easiest to sell to and so many of their people dont want to pay.

Oh yea, I almost forgot about the piracy issues they have. You'd be suprised instead of game stores selling games they outright sell tools to pirate the games.
