Forums - Sales - Greenberg clarifies 1 million 360 lead over PS3 in Europe

Some other interesting stuff in the interview if you click the link.

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/692337/Aaron_Greenberg_Interview_Xbox_360_in_2008_and_the_Future.html

G4: Can you just quickly clarify the 1 million lead over PS3 in Europe, is that the install base or sales during 2008?

Greenberg: Install base. In Europe we get weekly sell-through data from Chart Track and GFK and so we’re actually able to, across Europe, verify that is a 1 million unit lead [ed: over the PS3].

Pretty interesting stuff, especially the Live numbers. Easily the best interview I've seen with Greenberg, as I usually can't stand this spud.

I'm glad they've got stuff in the works. It would be incredibly stupid if they didn't - to have cut prices so low to get a leg up on Sony, only to have a piss weak exclusive game line-up the following year. But even so, it's nice to see him say, "We have a lot planned for 2009, but we absolutely have not shared what our lineup looks like."

On that note, a hilarious bit from the comments:

have fun playing all those halo's cause thats all yall getting

Hmmm, well VGCharts only shows a 500k lead, so unless Greenberg is including other GfK areas like Australia?

Those numbers really show that the Playstation brand is strong here in the EU. Not surprised though, everyone I know wants a PS3 but either cant afford it or are waiting for GT5.

Even then its still 300k short.

In the quarterly reports do all the big 3 announce how many consoles were sold in which regions?

well the numbers need fixing then dont they?

Personally I thought it was pretty clear at the time. When they quote Chart Track and GFK that means they know the actual install base. Kind of like the analyst from the PR where he had seen the early returns of over 8 million install base for EMEA. VGC adjusted the 360 numbers down, but it looks like they fumbled. PS3 is too high in fact. Clearly there is a reason Stinger didn't provide any real world numbers this week.

Moreover in that PR they were talking about EMEA. Spelled it out even with a footnote showing what countries were included. That does not even include the likes of AU. Listening to Bigjon will get you nowhere fast.

Only Nintendo gives regional figures.

Not surprising in the least. Many had pointed it out at the time, but few listened.
