BioWare to Show Mass Effect 2's Level Design at GDC

Details on the anticipated RPG follow-up coming in March.

By Steve Watts, 01/08/2009

For a game that was pitched from the beginning as a trilogy, it's been a while since we've heard anything about the sequel to Mass Effect. Details are coming, though, as ShackNews reports that BioWare will be talking about the game at the Game Developers Conference later this spring. The event, which will be held March 23-27 in the San Fransisco Moscone Center, will contain a panel called "The Iterative Level Design Process of BioWare's Mass Effect 2." The annual GDC is generally more for developers to learn from each other than for big media revelations, but at the very least BioWare will be making some mention of Mass Effect 2's creation process, which should bring some new details about the sequel. Though the developer was considering additional DLC, nothing has come with their apparent focus on the next game in the series. They've promised better sidequests, and we can hope that the PC-version's tactical HUD makes the trip to the sequel, but other than that information is sparse. We'll let you know what comes out of GDC in March.

AWESOME!!!

It's really good because if Mass Effect had one problem (and thats a big if) aside from the odd frame-rate issue, it was the argument that it's side levels were bland and/or repetitive.  I personally loved the story in the side-missions, but agree that they were repetitive.

So it's great they are addressing this.

Sweeeet. I'm thinking of buying Mass Effect on Steam - worth $30?

There aren't many people that play this game through that don't have it in their top 5 games of this generation.

Or higher.

Will they get sued by fat chicks?

Anyway, the game is looking good but without a more concrete 2009, 2010 release date I can't give it much more time than that. There are too many good games coming this year with confirmed 2009 release dates for me the bother really...

Tease.

I had assumed the 'same but different' look on the different levels was contributed to Bioware running out of space on a single DVD, hence the repeated assets. Perhaps this means that the sequel will span over multiple discs? *Giddy at the prospect*

its will show at GDC in march .. but is it announced ?
