Please, MGO is a joke. This game actual requires teamwork and tactics to win. MGO is jst two sides in a tiny map charging at each other (the maps are seriously small in MGO). And this game isn't a headshot spamfest

I can obviously tell you got your ass wooped on MGO

You want tactics, play survival mode or a tournament in a clan, you cant really get more tactical. Want a bigger map, try the likes of Virtuos Vista or something....I know its not exactly massive but it is big enough for the amount of players in the game. The stealth element of MGO also gives it another dimension, strangling someone with superior CQC skills is really great, and yes.......the golden rule in MGO is aim for the head.

So 1 game mode you have to pay for is tactical? Excellent. There's 1 fairly big map you have to buy? Good stuff. Looks like Konami knows how to milk their users. There is no stealth in MGO, the only consistent way to get someone with CQC (in matches with guns actually turned on) is if you trap them with a magazine, which isn't very stealthy, just lame.

You must of played in the beginers lobby all the time. Basic team tactics can be seen in the likes of team sneak and Bomb mission. The text chats also very useful for co-ordination.

For stealth, you need to play with skilled players. I mean there's alot of guys in the game that can get you in a grab and slit your throat in a split second, and teamsneak totally blows away your 'no stealth' argument.

Most maps are large enough, but yes, you need to pay for the biggest. It actually works out at around £0.30 for that map.

The customization in MGO was also superior imo

Text chat, lol, I forget nobody used mics in that game. Good luck finding a clan or staying with a skilled team in SOCOM without a mic. Team Sneak is just a joke, removes all elements of fun - It was like they realized they had no sneaking in the game so they made one where that was all you could really do. Never played Bomb Mission but it's the same premise of games that I've been playing in Counter-Strike for 10 years. How much did that cost again?

Stealth is a weak option in MGO, it's a must in SOCOM. I put over 100 hours into MGO, and it only took me a few hours of SOCOM to remind me what tactics really meant.

Finally some new news from Sony/Slant Six regarding Socom Confrontation Updates. Update from the Socom blog forum -

"The 1.50 Update for SOCOM: Confrontation is feature complete and currently in test. Due to the number and scope of the feature set of 1.50 the testing cycle has taken longer than anticipated. We remain committed to releasing this patch as soon as the remaining open issues are resolved. It is extremely important to us to make sure the 1.50 update is as problem free as possible when it is released and we are working towards that goal rather than pushing it out as is on a specific date.

A number of features in 1.50 are of such a scale that it will not be possible for us to fully predict how they will behave before public deployment. An example of this is the tournaments, each of which can accommodate 1000s of players. To account for this, we will ramp the size and number of tournaments during the first weeks after release to monitor and address any issues which may arise. We have also been working on a 1.60 Update which will incorporate any fixes that are required as Tournaments and Clan Ladders become fully populated.

FREE Downloadable Content:

We are happy to announce that the 1.60 Update will also contain additional features and content. We’ve heard your requests for new content and we are happy to provide free downloadable content with the 1.60 update. The following free Downloadable Content will be available to all players:

New Special Forces: The Dutch KCT and the Italian COMSUBIN Special Forces. Each Force includes new heads and voice + a light, medium and heavy variant of their own torso and legs (each with a unique camouflage pattern).

Two new primary weapons will be immediately accessible to players who select to play as the new Special Forces; the 417 assault rifle for the Dutch KCT and the SPAS 15 shotgun for the Italian COMSUBIN Special Forces.

Four new weapons will be available to all players regardless of assigned Special Force. These are the 9mm Sub Machine Gun, M82A1A, Ak-74 and SR-25. The 1.60 will also include a number of weapon updates and adjustments to existing weapons.

In addition to the free DLC included with the 1.60 update we are also working to add 100% Random Medleys in the 1.60 update. We know this is a highly requested feature and we really want to get it out to you.

More DLC coming! - We can also confirm that we have been working on a major content release/pack. Look for an announcement later in the month.

We will release more information on Patch 1.6 after 1.5 has been released."

Highlights

  • Patch 1.5 is in the final approval process and should be released soon.
  • Info on patch 1.6 - New Skins - Special Forces options (Dutch & Italian), new Camo, New Weapons (417 assault rifle, SPAS 15, 9mm SMG, M82A1A, AK-74 & SR-25), Weapon Updates, 100% random Medleys.
  • Slant Six is working on a major content release pack with more info to bre released after 1.5 deploys

Good to finally hear some update out of the team. Right now i really just want patch 1.5 to be out and working. Slant 6 has dropped the ball a bit on promises (patch 1.5 was supposed to be out in May....meanwhile it's mid June). The fact that info on patch 1.6 is coming out & new info on the content release should indicate that patch 1.5 is nearly...finally..here.

you should join a clan and play it right, infact your missing alot this way.

@ OP count me in , i like this game even though Slant Six are a bunch of lazy ass developers

SOCOM is better than MGO in my opinion. It is highly tactical, and can be kind of a b*tch to become really good. Then again, I've been playing SOCOM since the first and it is one of my favorite online games, maybe my favorite. I always end up coming back to it. I was actually thinking of going to see how many people still play 1 and 2, I miss the Fish Hook level lol among others.
