Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft wanted both HD formats to Fail?

This is over a year Old but Bay has some good points that I actually think is true. Especially with MS making the deal with netflix and all it seems that MS wants to make Digital Distribution a mass accepted thing when it comes to games. Although I prefer a hard copy over DD any day.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Well, the disc formats are worth nothing to M$, from their point of view it's only another format for piracy and everything distributed on them is just an additional cost.
DD would be much better and profitable option for them, since with driving their own standards to DD would allow them to have "control" over the content, in similar fashion the disc tech owners have over the discs (license fees).

Anyway, first the internet caused the number of home computers to explode and now its slowly eating away M$:s foothold. Currently M$ is surrounded with potential disruptors. With DD, they could sell operating systems to multimedia PC:s and position themselves better on the internet scheme.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Terrible article.

For one Microsoft didn't announce a deal with Netflix until after HD-DVD was dead. Bay may have been right about Blu-Ray being the superior format but his rant or comments are off key and have no facts. Microsoft has stated on a number of occasions that digital downloads were their focus even before HD-DVD was dead. That is why the HD-DVD drive was a external optional device and MS didn't add it to their console.

The article is old and the fact don't support Bay's theory.

Nah, they turned to digital streaming because they lost the format war to Sony and the BD gang.

Michael Bay is a retard.

But yea, MS may have wanted them both to fail...still doesnt change the fact Michael Bay is a retard.

So when bluray took the market over from HDDVD...Michael bay was still a retard.

they definitely wanted whatever format was inside PS3 to fail (which is bluray). HD DVD wasn't a threat to MS and their view, but they had to prevent bd from skyrocketing in popularity so they used HD DVD to prevent or delay that to happen.

And Michael Bay is either the dumbest guy or the hugest bluray/sony fanboy. Before mid-2008, HD DVD was the superior format. It's only when blu-ray finally matured 2 years after launch that the scale tips on the bluray side because of the superior storage, otherwise, everything blu-ray did, HD DVD can do because it's all about encoding.

so that means if microsoft wanted hd-dvd and bluray to fail...................

they have blatently ripped off many purchasers of the hd-dvd add on and hd-dvd dics?

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

@haxxiy: Of course they want PS3 to fail, but the best option for M$ is for both formats to fail. The longer the fight between the two disc formats would have continued, the more it would have cost to both sides, making DD a better competitor for video (and other form of media) distribution.
