Forums - Microsoft - Gears and Halo3 sales

Halo franchise is over 25 million sold, Gears now 10 (PC?)

By end of this generation if new Gears is out then I expect Gears Franchise to be above 25M and Halo to be 50M (what with Halo Wars, ODST & Chronicals)

75M from two fairly new franchises is nothing to be sniffed at.

I bought all 3 games. I helped!

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

I still need Gears 1... I'll snatch it once I find a deal (~$20 please).

People have little faith in the new Halo game, because it's nothing like the previous games. While the name alone will take it very far, 5mil (near half of Halo 3's expected lifetime) may be pushing it. In fact, I think that would make it the best selling real-time strategy game of all time. Eh, I don't know...

Not Halo Wars... i was talking about Halo ODST... stealth shooter.

Oh, my bad. I don't even know what that game is.

Well, to be fair, you didn't specify on the OP. Also, I just got my 360 a couple weeks ago, not very knowledgable about the lineup...

@kowenicki

I doubt it.

1. It's just an expansion
2. Many sales from the Halo series came because of the multiplayer, Halo ODST will have exactly the same multiplayer (except for the new mappack which comes "free" with the game) People who don't care about the story won't buy the game. (except for new Online Co-op levels)
3. It's like you've stated different from the series. It has no masterchief, it features an open world and has stealth elements (I admit, the last two aspects could be positve or negative)

To the best of my knowledge, ODST isn't an expansion, it's a completely new experience in and of itself. I would sooner call it a spin-off than an expansion.

There's completely new multiplayer, to the best of my knowledge.

And these guys are the Halo equivalent to the ARC Troopers from Republic Commando. There are definite angles to play this up.

Plus sales of Halo 1 & 2 on PC and wasn't there a halo map pack and halo triple pack released on the origional xbox?

And Halos merchandising must be a real moneyspinner too , toys, comics ect.

Halo is a money making machine and i can't see that changing anytime soon with Halo wars and Halo ODST just around the corner.

ODST has potential. I just don't know if the Halo craze is still alive.

Well it's a (big) stand alone expansion. I mean the story is about 3-5 hours long.

Its been confirmed by Bungie that its not a full product, it wont be sold at full price, but it is a standalone product. I think its going to be huge and all the big AAA titles will be following Bungie's foot steps after it's success. I cant see any reason why someone that bought Halo 3 wouldn't purchase it.
