Oooh the same old joke where they count all PS3's as Blu-ray players.

Too bad they're still way behind in disc adoption to DVD.

And why wouldn't they count them when they're some of the best Blu Ray players on the market? I understand some people dodn't use that feature, but they're in a vast minmority.

Speaking of adoption rates, BR is doing much better than DVD, as the slide shows

The number of BR discs sold in US this year is impressive as well, and so is the number of standalone BR players sold (3.5m and counting).

I'm out of the loop, is Blade Runner out on BR? Anyone?

Yes.

You could of just typed "Blade Runner Blu-ray" into google.

Oh, thanks for the link, I didn't know Blade Runner was out! The only BR movie that I currently have is Transformers the Movie (1986 Cartoon). Sad, I know...

Anyway, off to purchase Blade Runner!

Disc adoption... not the bogus player adoption... where a huge chunk of the peopel with a PS3 don't use Blu-ray.

Disc adoption... which are the numbers you don't get are the REAL numbers.

Well, there were 30 million BR movies sold in the US last year. I'd love to see DVD figures for the same period in its respective lifetime.

For comparison... it took Blu-ray a Year and a Half to sell 9 million discs in the US.

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/16068/Bluray-Disc-Movie-Sales-Top-9-Million/

With 3 million being in the first 11 weeks of 2008.

So... 9 million - 3 = 6 million discs sold right in 2007, right?

So that means.... 24 million discs sold in 2008, right?

So aproximitly 30 million discs sold total.

DVD beat that...

and back then people bought significantly less movies.

Ooh, they arent' even using player sales. I just noticed PS3 value.

They're using Player Revenue AND including the PS3... that's even more funny.

Also where do you get 30 million last year?

By my math it's 30 million total.  (as does the article.)

By this timeframe DVD had sold 30.6 Million.  More before you even consider the fact that the movie industry has grown by at least 5% every year.

When you account for inflation of the market... it isn't even close... Marketshare wise Blu-ray is getting destroyed vs what DVD vs VHS.

Just found some figures regarding BR disc sales - 0.37m in 2006, 5.67m in 2007, 24.09m in 2008.

Are there any old DVD figures out there for comparison?

indeed though they are shipped... so you do have to knock it down a bit.

DVD came out at the same time... so the rest is comparable though.

5.5 Million, 25.1 Million and 98 Million. (128.6 million a little more then 30 million... even when accounting for store stock.)

Blu-ray released in May of 2006.... I believe?

DVD released even later... i want to say?
