I just want to let some folks know this much: This is actually what professional journalism is, or at least what the mainstream media has degraded down to. Sensationalizing garners more viewers for an article, and bashing something that as of now 46 million people have bought will cause outrage and fury.

If you want to know what it's like, check out Fox News or CNN. Which basically means that it's people like him get paid to get people irritated.

Good post.

It's important to remember that most media, and especially news media, aren't trying to sell content to you. They're trying to sell your attention to advertisers. The news isn't the product, and you aren't the customer. The audience is the product, and the advertisers are the customer.

Quoted for uncomfortable truth.

Apparently the GoNintendo slur prompted Malstrom to rush to RMC's rescue.

Internet drama can be so fun, sometimes!

The fact that he wants a better game for his wii makes him an arse?

No, but trying to call himself a "serious gamer", a "game journalist" and in the process calling 40+ million people stupid because they have different tastes does make him an arse.

I listen to a lot of gaming podcasts, and not an episode goes by without numerous comments disparaging the Wii. This is not the the attitude of this one "journalist", but the consensus opinion among them all. They are all hoping the bubble does burst, and Wii sales die off.

This, I think, points to how seriously the Wii is still being underestimated.  Right now, the Wii is facing opposition from the two key fronts of the industry: On one, you have developers who, it seems, are actively trying to sabotage the Wii by dumping shovelware on it and simultaneously putting their best efforts on the PS360.  On the other, you have a gaming press (which includes bloggers, analysts, and so on) that has proven itself hostile to the Wii, with that hostility increasing as the latter continues to find success.  Despite all this, though, the Wii marches on like the Juggernaut, smashing sales records as it goes.  Could you imagine, then, how well the Wii would be doing if it had the collective favour of the gaming industry?

That guy sure is a whiny bitch for a gaming journalist. How did he ever have a career in this industry when he doesn't even understand the simplest things? Wii Music is the best Wii game of 2008? Really? Not, No More Heroes, Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Call of Duty...? Really?

Moron.

The guy should have stuck to his guns, time would have proven him correct. Pitty he caved under the pressure.

When will it end? People will always hate that which is popular, it makes them feel refined and set apart from the common man, but come on already.

You can't claim to be a gaming fan for 30 years and still not be able to see that Nintendo has done more than anyone to keep gaming alive this generation? It doesn't take 20 years of gaming 'journalism' to realize that the virtual console alone is a bigger asset for a gamer than both Sony and Microsoft's combined efforts this gen.

What kind of gamer are you if you sit by and applaud the attempt to turn games into a branch of the movie industry, and then turn around and bash the only true gaming company left in the race when they successfully bring gaming for gaming's sake back?

The internet is full of 'hardcore gamers' who doesn't even understand what a game is. They have the chance to experience first hand one of the most significant moments in video gaming history, and they choose to cry and whine about it instead. Shaking in their pants from fear because they don't understand what gaming and that it would be the end of their life if they ever were to enjoy something that a soccer mom could enjoy.

Anyone who really cares about games should be on their knees right about now, thanking Nintendo for saving video gaming again.

I am very happy when so-called videogames journalists seem so stupid by such cheap excuses/comments.

And all that staff adds to my point of view that journalists are the people that most of everyone else shocked by WII's success and now they eat their hats.

Never mind they have all this generation to understand what happened. How their console of choice is at the last place or how the mighty ms can not take the first place.

The best part is that when DS launched and when WII announced its name and some techinical details they prolonged Nintendo's death and laughed out loud. I have some of their arrogant comments back then when they were sure that psp will crush DS and that WII will be the last console from Nintendo.

And that's why i love Nintendo. Against all odds made everyone videogames journalist/specialist seem so wrong.

ur forgiven apology accepted, i hoped u learned from ur past mistakes
