GO PS3!!! Wow a GREAT start to the New Year! 360 - 19,000, honestly that's not bad at all considering it was FAR lower last year, good job 360!

Good Numbers for the PS3, 70k is a great start for the year!!

Holiday sales in Japan have begun?

Even more interesting, look at the totals for this week:

Roughly 80K between the very expensive, doomed PS3 rat and the clear 2nd finisher Xbox colossus.

Shouldn't the 360 be selling a little closer to the Wii since it even has a SKU that is cheaper than the Wii? Correct me if I'm wrong. Xbox should be looking up to Wii since it is so in the same price range and also has the SKU package to compete directly against it (and don't forget the Mii rip-offs!). But, instead they are like padding themselves on the back 'cause they were able to outsell a pricey piece of elite vanguardist electronic equipment like the PS3, this holiday season. That 80K this week doesn't look that much as an advantage to me, beginning the new year, and nothing to be too proud of compared to what their same-priced competitor is making.

People buy consoles for the software, not the hardware. The 360 doesn't have any games anywhere close to being as appealing as Wii Fit / Sports, Mario Kart, Brawl, or Animal Crossing for the Japanese.

OT: All systems are showing great sales, except the Wii. The system is in need of help... it has been declining for a while. Are there any big games coming before Motion+?

I predict that 2009 will be the year that PS3 finally becomes relevant in Japan. They've got some huge releases coming this year such as Naruto in January, Demon's Souls + Street Fighter IV + Yakuza 3 in February, Resident Evil 5 + Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete/Final Fantasy XIII Demo in March, and finally Final Fantasy XIII + Gran Turismo 5 in Q4.

I have a feeling that Japan is going to start being PS3's equivalent to the 360's America. That being a region where they beat 360 by around 30,000 every week.

Yeah, the PS3 sales will be good in Q1. But starting in april, there aren't many PS3 games releasing...

Wow Wii Way down YOY in Japan.

Good sales, PS2 considerably up YoY = wtf

Wii gains 0.1%, but neither of PS360 lose any as it now adds up to 100.1%

Starting in April, there aren't many ANYTHING games releasing. At least none that we know about yet. We'll find out a lot more about Q2 and Q3 releases by the end of Q1.

We still don't have Japanese release dates for Killzone 2 or Quantum Theory, not that I expect either to do spectacular there. Clap Hanz should be releasing a new Hot Shots Golf for PS3 sometime this year too. That would make for a good oasis for PS3 in Japan during the summer drought.

Nice to see Sony pulling in some respectable numbers in Japan, especially the PS3. Hopefully they can manage to keep the trend going.
