Forums - Nintendo - The flaw in the Wii which makes surpassing the PS2s sales even better.

The duct tape will wear out eventually. So GameCube sales will double, and people still have to replace their Wiis. Win/win.

Well if you look at it like that, the 45 million Wiis sold are actually 90 million GC :D Plus the 20 million already sold 110 million GC!! catching up the the PS2.

I haven't heard anything at all for actual Wii hardware failure, but anything is possible I spose.

Disc drives could crap out, but they are easily fixed and don't require buying a new console.  I actually had a disc drive that got very noisy..but it never caused any problems for me.  I had it sent it out, and in under a weeks time had it back with a new drive and a refreshed year warranty.  No hassles, no cost and no problems since.

I should probably note that I finally snagged the unit in Jan. '07, so I've had it for a while now.

Yea, I think the biggest problem is probably the disc drive (noise or failures).

What flaw ?
Nintendo business is different than Sony or MS one.
They are at their core a gaming company. They release their own hardware to sell their own software.
A reliable harware was always a priority for Nintendo because if a system is broke then you can't play ( and thereof buy ) Nintendo games for it.
This is true for DS and Wii and will be true for future Nintendo systems because , you know, Nintendo like profits.

The real flaw is that they keep fixing the few Wiis which do break at no charge, even past the warranty date! That's just crazy.

I've thought about this before. A lot, actually.

I wish we had some way of knowing how large the PS2's userbase was, instead of how man units is sold, so we could know when the Wii passes it up in terms of ownership.

How many PS2 sales were from repurchases anyway?

They should have made the whole console fit in the wii mote.... my sister broke one of mine after 5 mins of play by banging it in a luster while serving in tennis (managed to tell the store that it didn't work from the start).

oh and my only consoles that ever broke were when I was not there. SNES I suspect the cleaning lady to have banged it hard or something. PS2 a friend pluged it into 240V (the plug is not even the same as US...).

only console I bought twice is PS2.
