Forums - Sales - If HAZE was not a PS3 exclusive would free radical be in trouble today ?

First off a few points.

1.) Haze was NOT hyped. I was one of the few people on this site defending it >_> I have mad love for Free Radical and I put a ton of faith into this title. It was like me, and 2 other people vs. everyone else -_-; So please god stop saying this was hyped.

2.) I can't imagine the game costing all that much to develop >_> If anyone read about how they made the game, they might know that this game tapped into 0% of the PS3's SPU setup. The entire game was played off the PPU :/ Making it a game programmed off one core. Which effectively eliminates any trouble they might have had figuring that out xD

3.) The game itself was bad >_>;;; It had some redeeming qualities mind you, and I think if it went multi-plat it might have done a little better, but not by much -_-; I think they just ran out of money while developing the title lol. Me-thinks they should have borrowed some from Sony~

And secondly, I prefer Sausage to Bacon :/ It's just how I view it and no one can change my opinion >_>

@ OP )

in my opinion they just didn't have any more money to develop the game any further (or make different versions) - which is why it's at best mediocre - , so they had to release it in order to get some cash

Short answer:
Yes.
Long answer:
Yeah.

Haze was originally set for release on the 360 as well. For whatever reason, the game really sucked, Ubisoft pulled the plug on the 360 version and focused on the PS3.

Do 360 owners have a history of supporting awful multiplatform games more than Sony fans?

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Game sold 600k because it was a PS3 exclusive, if it was a multiplat sales overall would be similar. But if developers have created a really bad game im not suprised they suffer, that's reality.

I disagree with most. They would have made more money unless Sony made sure it was an exclusive by giving them extra chedder.

Reasons:
-Xbox 360 is easier to develop for and it wouldn't have been expensive to port
-FPS games sell better on 360
-Mediocre FPS games sell better on 360 (Turok)
-Xbox live eats up anything with multiplayer

However, I would not have bought it as I played it on PS3 when I used to own one and it wasn't that good.

What amazes me is people that use this website seem to think quality=sales.

Well damn Okami developers must be super glad to hear that and carnival games developers must be terrified! On the PS3 need for speed prostreet has destroyed many other higher quality titles in sales.

Quality is only a small part of sales, there are many more factors.

Yes haze would have performed much better if it had been on the 360 and PS3. I think Turok and dark sector are reasonable comparisons. If haze had been multiplat it probably could have managed a million in sales. Considering we know the game was at least part way in development for 360 and pc already im sure that boost in sales would easily have covered the cost.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

Haze was hyped as a PS3 exclusive.. then when it was delayed until Spring 08, bad reviews came out and the hype died

#2
If Free Radical had developed for the 360 EXCLUSIVELY then they would of been finished before xmas, and maybe even polished...

#3
If running out of funds was the issue, then Sony sure didn't help them out. Who knows, maybe MS would of help them for timed exclusivety or exclusive DLC

Either way - Free Radical is where it is today because they picked the wrong horse.. the userbase was smaller, the developing was longer and harder, and the quality of the game & the companies profits where hurt because of it

Didn't Haze try to incorporate some anti-military (possibly anti-US) political statement or something?

Look at the sales of the recent Call of Duty games... not a smart choice.

I believe it would of done really well on the 360, like someone said early in the post 'free radical backed the wrong horse for this one' and there sure did. With xbox live and achievements we could be seeing a million sold for 360. bad game or not.
