Forums - Sales - Average new ebay prices: Mario Kart over $80, Wii fit over $140

I often troll craigslist for older games, or used Xbox 360 games.  Today I decided to look for some Wii games -- surely a few of the games I am interested in would be available used.

None.  And what I did see were Mario Kart and Wii Fit, well above retail price.  "That's odd," I think, as surely Mario Kart can't really  be selling above retail by scalpers.  How would it?

Average new price$80.53

Average used price$71.90

That's amazing.  But I sure as hell wouldn't sell my copy for $80, it's too damn much fun to play online.

So what was released around when Mario Kart was released?  I know: GTA 4.

Hmm, less than $19 with free shipping?  Wow, the value of that game seems to be dropping like a rock compared to Mario Kart.  I guess -- I played quite a bit of GTA 4 on my 360, although not even 1/5th as much Mario kart as I played, and I'm not willing to pay $19 to own it.  I can get it from blockbuster for $7.50, after all.

I noticed that all my local stores were sold out of MK as well. Crazy how much demand is for these two games.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

My local BB was selling GTA IV for $7.50 (really 2 copies for $15) but it sold out. I don't think my store event rents Mario Kart Wii (well, it is always rented out).

Amazon.com is out of Mario Kart Wii too but you can buy it used for $63.

I hope all the developers complaining about used video game stores take note of this.

Proving once again that super artistic games, like these, sell for loads of cash to the masses.

There is a serious MK:Wii and WiiFit shortage, at retail outlets, after the Holiday season, though, I've noticed. Some folks just can't wait.

Indeed.  Mario Kart has been sold out mostly in Madison since its launch.  In my opinion, that's inexcusable: I don't care how much your game is selling, Nintendo, you should be able to pump enough disks in 8  months to meet demand.

Do stores simply underorder?

I can forgive Nintendo for not producing enough balance boards because I don't know how complex it is to produce them and they're pumping them out at a fantastic rate.  But Mario Kart?

I rarely see a new or preowned copy of Mario Kart Wii in UK stores but I could build a house with the rows of traded in copies of GTA4 I see in every game store that deals in preowned titles.

Rarely see any preowned copies of Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4 either.

Even I didn't think MK would sell so well. I knew it was going to sell like gangbusters, but I wouldn't have guessed it to be on track for the best selling non-bundled console game of all time, exluding other Wii games.

ha yea I don't see either ever when i go into best buy in Rochester, MN. Also very rarely ever see wiiwheels. only knock offs of the wiiwheel.

and one thing I am quite impressed upon for the Wiifit it that have you guys ever heard of a board not working yet? They apparenlty made a good product.
