One of the important notes is that the 360, last year, had a major December release in Lost Odyssey (which sold 100,000+ units) while in 2008, there was no such mega-seller outside of 2 western games. This bodes well in 2009 for the 360 in Japan.

Of course, that's all relative to what the Xbox has done, and not the PS3 or Wii. What'll be interesting is to see how quickly the 2008 and earlier records will fall in 09 in terms of hardware sales. We *could* see the X360 pass 2007's LTD cume by the end of March which would be nothing short of amazing....But is doable given the 360's lineup with Star Ocean 4 exclusivity and the Resident Evil 5 bundle (and both games are releasing very close to each other which could mean a blockbuster Febuary/March - could evene exceede 100,000 units/mo in both Feb and Mar).

Also, regarding software - Dissidia is on the top, but no game sold more than 100,000 copies, although 4 games sold more than 90,000 copies...

Great sales but still we are down from last year, especially Wii. Like I had said, 360 had a very mundane holiday season with no noticeable increases whatsoever. For something that was averaging about 8k-12k before holiday season to only have one week where it actually exceeds that shows how it had its holidays before the season.

Aside from that let's hope the 360 can carry the above average sales that it gained before the holiday season into 2008 which it should be able to. With SO4 and RE5 it should do pretty decent to start off with.

PS3 doesn't do so bad during the holidays considering how it was shaping up before. DS and PSP do well despite what they were going into before thx to DSi and new PSP.

Really the only thing in the holidays that expresses worry is the Wii and it still got some large holiday increases. But Wii has a good 2009 lineup that should allow it to have some decent weeks to break it from its dry spell.
