Forums - Nintendo - Millions Sellers: Wii (41) vs Gamecube (39)!

On topic, that's very interesting that most of the million-sellers on Wii are third party now. Of course, the Nintendo games selling many, many millions, but it's still good news for third-party publishers.

And of course it was expectable that the Wii would get more million sellers than the Cube, but is this a reason for not mentioning it?

You're absolutely right.

Feel free to go to the Off-Topic forum and post that the world is round or that water is wet while you're at it.

Um, games tend to sell over time, so even with the larger userbase, that does note = instantly more games over 1 million.

The likelihood definitely increases with a large userbase.

I'd love to see some counter examples where a console with a smallest userbase in one generation had more million sellers than the console with the highest userbase the generation before.

Well, the Xbox which sold more than the GC has only 37 million sellers listed.

That's two fewer than the GC and four fewer than the Wii.

Larger user base does increase the probably of high sellers. So does time. So it in some ways is an apples to oranges arguement.

Someone has notice Wii has now more millions sellers VS gamecube?

Wii: 41

Gamecube: 39

And now the most interesting parts!

3rd parties millions sellers on Wii: 24/41 = 58%

3rd parties millions sellers on GC: 13/33 =33%

3rd parties + WII = $$$$$$$$$$$

I have listed in red the most meaningful part. Over half the million sellers are third-party efforts. While some may be of dubious quailty, it does show that you can sell your game on the Wii.

Many 3rd party games can sell over a million.

Those publishers just have to be patient because these games most likely be frontloaded, but crawl to the target in the long run.

For the Wii

DDR: HP
COD:3
Boogie
Super Monkey Ball
Namco Museum
and Cooking Mama are all million seller but are missing data, so the Wii really has right now 47 million sellers.

Also there games will be really close once data is complete on them
DQSwords
FE:RD
Excite Truck
and possibly
Outdoorlife.

So please it goes both ways.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

The X360 has still more with a lot smaller userbase.

The X360 got the majority of (quality) third party support AND launched a yr earlier.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I have to admit, the 360 sells games very very well. It has what 60? million sellers, and it userbase is still similiar to the xbox's which had like 37 or so...

The Gamecube had good games, shame it didn't sell more.
