You're comparing a console that is long dead vs a one that is growing at an incredible rate. (1) People pick up games over the whole lifespan not just when they buy it. Half of the wii userbase has had their system for less 7 months. (2) |
1) No, the OP is comparing "a console that is long dead vs a one that is growing." I'm saying the comparison is silly.
2) Did you read what I said, I asked when people pick up the majority of the games. And the fact is that not everyone buys games over the course of the console's lifespan. Some might just buy it for a few games (Wii Sports, Wii Fit, etc) whereas others might end the generation with dozens of games. My point is that those who are just buying it to play certain games will likely acquire those certain games within the first few months of owning it and that might be the biggest purchasing surge we see from them.
The only possible rebuttal would be pointing out the very long legs some Wii titles enjoy which serves only to prove that those people don't make up a huge portion of the Wii userbase (much to the dismay of HD fanboys everywhere I'm sure).
