Well, let's see... last gen sold 170-180 million units (not counting the dreamcast, all its users either moved to another console or quit gaming in disgust), let's assume we gonna end up this gen at 210 million units. The wii is outselling the ps2, let's peg it at 120M sales... around 90M to split between 360 and ps3.

Nah, I don't see it making 100 million.

I believe every gen gets bigger and bigger in terms of sales, not only that but the Wii has opened gaming to new areas of people. The market doesn't run "dry" at anywhere around 200 M

4th: 96 M Consoles

5th: 155 M Consoles

6th: 195 M Consoles

around a 60 M leap from 4th to 5th Gen

But from 5th to 6th it's only 40M and it's either taking into account the Dreamcast (all of it's users either bought another console or quit the hobby) or the ps2 long tail, which only the biggest name this gen will get.

I can't see more than 90M, maybe 100M tops to be shared between the 360 and the ps3.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

actually 360 outsold ps3 this year. look at the chartz and then go to hardware table. xbox 360 this year is at 11.3 million units and all sales are not in yet. ps3 is  at 10.4 million units. so I think we outsold you this year. so before you go blasting off at the mouth, check you facts.

i hope this gen would be longer. it's good for all gamers. Gears of War is still amazing today. it will be also in two years. xbox360 will hit 80 Mio. mark.

I don't know... Microsoft seams to want to ride this thing out... so I think it'll probably have a long life... 7-10 years depending on the next gen's launch... I think that'll be in 12 myself. That'll give the 360 an long life without a successor

Can't see 100 million even if it does last a long time. I think it will go pretty long too, but more like 50-70 million sold.

Support good third party games on wii. Buy games like house of the dead overkill, de blob, madworld, the conduit and boom blox.

i dont want to sound like an idiot but its impossible. its been out 3 years and sold 28 million so i dont know where the hell the other 70 million is gonna come from. 45-60 million is a safe bet.

@theword - Thanks for the link to prove me wrong.  If MS thought they could displace Sony as the leader this generation then they probably had 100M in mind.  I wonder if they still feel that way with the Wii selling so well.

I don't believe the XB360 will reach 100M and think sales will follow slightly lower than mrstickball's predictions.  Sales will probably end near 65-70M IMO.

It was said in a way that leave them room to undershoot 100M.  Here's Mr. Kim's quote "somebody's well on their way to reaching 100 million units."   And frankly I think your 65-70M estimate is more achievable.    But MS has really proven they can surprise, so we will just have to wait and see.    Microsoft had repeatedly said that historically 75% of a console sales happened at or below the $200 price point.    If historical trend follows through, this means the 24M sold prior to the system hitting $200 represent only 1/4 of total life time sales.   Which means MS expected to move more than 70M additional units once most of their bundle fall below $200.
