SSB sells pretty well in all regions, but its main driving force is America by a large margin it seems.
What is "Worldwide appeal" anyway? Having sold equal in all territories? Because that is, by no means having equal appeal WW.
Others is twice as big as Japan. For SW, Americas is double of that again. Thus, a game with WW appeal should be
Japan = X*1
Others = X*2
Americas = X*4
Or, if you go by population...
Japan: X*1
Others = X*3 (Western Europe = over 90%)
Americas = X*3
Of course, you have to fit it (if using method 1) for each console.
So I'd say The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has a better WW appeal than the titles you listed.
Japan = 600K (X = 600K)
Others = 1760K = X*3 (still selling, so will get there)
Americas = 2740K = X*4.5
So it is a bit less Japan oriented, but generally console titles are (in method 1, I included handhelds)
So I think your way of measuring WW appeal is flawed.

Actually I've pointed MGS series not because of numbers but fact it finds relatively similar group of buyers on every market. As someone already pointed this thread fails...
Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy and the MGS series are missing from your list.
Sorry for that but the Call of Duty , Halo, and GT series are just bigger franchises.
Sale figures doesnt always matter...
