Forums - Microsoft - Xbox360 is back ahead of PS3 in America since price cut!

Anyways, I think much of the PS3 sales at this point (roughly 2/3's) are still going to be for the 60 Gig Packages since with the emotion engine its a far better deal. If Sony drops the 80 Gig to $499 later this Holiday it'll be a much better deal, but I think $599 locks out most of the mass market again.

If Sony doesn't lower the price of the 80gig PS3 when the 60gigs sells out it'll be slaughtered in North America.  So it's very likely they will reduce the price of the 80gig before X'mas.

i agree that sony AGAIN beeing back up to 599 locks out the mass market............. i duuno why or who think this kindaa stuff but they need to get that price lower for the 80  like NOW if they wanna win this holiday after wii and over 360 i really think its gonna have to be a price drope of whateva just MAKE THE PS3 CHEEEPEERR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dacobra how can you list a bunch of games that are equally unproven except for Rachet and clank and UT-3 and the pass them off as things the Xbox360 doesn't have. I hope you accept the same statements made by Xbox360 fans when they tell you Bioshock, Two Worlds, Blue Dragon, Halo 3, Beautiful Katamari, Mass Effect and various other games are all various reasons for Xbox360 to be in their basket this holiday over the PS3 its no more irrational than your statement.

I agree with the analysis of the numbers, in that I think the 360 price drop will be more sustainable than the PS3 one. Also, I think it's possible that a good chunk of people who bought the PS3 heard of the price going back up when the 60GB model runs out, since that was widely available news even on sites like Yahoo news.

In regards to comments that Sony dropping the PS3 80GB down to $500 will push it past the 360, I don't understand the logic. There is a rumor that Sony will do that, and it will no doubt help them if they do, but we've also heard rumors that MS intends to lower the price again sometime in November, this time pushing the 360 Premium finally to a acceptable price ($300). If that happens, I don't see how Sony could beat MS in the US. Even though one could make the argument that the $500 PS3 has more value, as the saying goes "Money talks, and bullshit walks". People will look the 360 being priced within what is considered normal for a console, and buy that instead.

I also believe that in terms of selling power, name matters. While the PS3 does have some nice looking games coming out (more appealing to me than most, since I love brand new games and their potential for a new experience and stories), people go with what they know. What we know is that there are millions of people who are ardent fans of Halo and Mario, and there are even more people who have friends who highly recommend those games. The PS3 lacks these games this year. It could have 10 GOTY contenders, but if people haven't heard of it or had it recommended, it won't matter. Look at TV or movies. Alot of the stuff considered to be the best in those mediums weren't big money makers. Critics love the new Battlestar Galactica (94 on Metacritic), but put it up against a dredge of a show like Are you smarter than a 5th grader and guess which one gets slaughtered.

I wish all the people who are always saying "I don't really trust VGChartz sales I'm waiting for " would come back an apologize every time they're proven wrong.

When is that? They've been comparing to NPD for what, 3 months now, and two of those months they've been terribly wrong (on hardware).

And lets not even talk about software.

Last month I guess, they were a bit better, but when you're off by 20% and stuff, it makes the numbers kind of useless. Especially since anybody who follows this closely could make a simple guess at NPD's with similar accuracy or better (the last few months things have been pretty stable). I mean I could guess 200k 360 and 100k PS3 most of the time and be about as accurate as VGchartz.

I consider this NPD will be a good test of VGchart as we will get a good deal of flux due to PS3 cut. That is why I'd like to see if the July NPD's back vgchartz up on ps3 sales increases before proceeding.

I defend vgchartz in general, and their numbers aren't worthless they're a good secondary data point, about as good say as amazon's rankings. Just something to get some kind of idea. But they need to improve accuracy and develop a track record a lot before I trust them more...

Kind of pointless to bury it in this post, but it also might be nice if they, stopped combining US and Canada sales, and dropped the attempt at predicting 5-10% over. When you are already 10 or 20% wrong, these just compound it terribly. And most people just want USA NPD's and dont include Canada, so it makes vg look less accurate than you actually are. I realize that's technically the viewers fault, but I just think an attempt should be made to predict USA NPD's only, without the overcount, and it would be a lot more accurate. Perhaps just do a seperate specific USA only NPD prediction (seperate from all the other vgchartz archives and stuff, just a side project). Keep the 5-10% over for VGCHARTZ official archive database and all, just make a seperate NPD prediction in ADDITION to that.

Not to come across as condiscending or diffuse any legitimate discussion already in play, but did any of us really not see this comming at least in some way shape or form?

there is two side for this and u just stated the other side and i did mention a few for 360 that ill end up buying and i guess those games<u listed> aren't as apealing<exception halo3, bio-ware but am not a BIG FPS Fan anywayy> to me even thoug i have a 360 but whateva thas just my take am pretty sure there are ppl out there wateing for those 360 titles<halo3, Bio-ware, Mass-Effect> but honestly i have seen less and less about games like blue dragon, two-worlds beautifull katamarie which am pretty sure they be great but  i haven't heard anything about them which is a big reason why i dont know i guess ill waite for the reviews and at the end the fact remains that the list i said is only ps3 except obviously haze, UT-3 but they are both probably gonna be ported to 360 <just maybe not sure though> and that line i listed might apeal more to a gamer who is gonna walk in to buy a HD-game system this holiday........unless he is a FPS fan than for sure 360 cause 360 has batter FPS games this holiday but other than that ill say even though it sound like am favoring one over the other but the ps3 line up sounds more exciting...........but am not saying ur wrong am righ thass again just me and i guess this conversation to pick back up after the holiday to see who was right and wrong when all the fact are laid out lol
