It is actually normal in the area of games, particularly computer and videogames, to shorten them and not type them out. Civ is known as the shorthand for Civilization.

Another example would be GoW, which WAS God of War, but now often the short hand for Gears of War. Myself, I shorten Gears of War to just Gears.

The question is irrelivent because after MK DC there won't be anymore games from Midway.
