Forums - Nintendo - Why do several Nintendo games have arguable genres?

I thought about this when I was browsing Virtual Console.  Apparently The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is under RPG and Adventure.

Now I ask you.

1.) Is The Legend of Zelda an action adventure series or a RPG?

2.) Is the Metroid Prime series a bunch of FPS's or Action Adventure games?

3.) Is Pokemon a series of JRPG's or 'Monster catching' games?

4.) Is Pikmin a series of Real Time Strategy games or.. something else?

5.) Is Wii Sports a 'mini-game compilication' or a sports title.

Someone please clear this up.. or at least argue in an intelligent manner.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Around the Network

1. action adventure

2. first person action adventure (mixed genre just like SRPG)

3. RPG

4. real time stratergy

5. sports title, albeit a very unique one

nintendo fanboy, but the good kind

proud soldier of nintopia

1) It is an action adventure game, with Role-Playing elements. Some would call it a(n?) RPG, but I wouldn't. I checked, OoT is (in Norway) not filed under Rope-playing games. Only under adventure games. I guess you're just making this up, but I won't accuse you of that.

2) It is a First-Person adventure game. That's a genre, no problem.

3) It is a JRPG. You catch the monsters instead of them being people who join your group. Fire Emblem (sort of) does the same thing. If it wasn't for the strategy, that would be as JRPG as it gets.

4) It's real time strategy. It says so on the box.

5) :O You added this. Wii Sports is, as the title inclines, a sports game. It is a non-traditional sports game, but still a sports game. Wait, do you consider tech-demo a genre?

Your threads are really improving, aren't they?

Nope but people seem to use that as an excuse to say that Wii Sports isn't the best selling game of all time.

Pixel Art can be fun.

1) Zelda is an action adventure game.

2) Metroid prime is both a FPS and a action adventure game.

3) Obvious and easy. Pokemon is a JRPG without a doubt.

4) Real time strategy.

5) Sport game mainly.

But why is that included in the question about what genre it is? You're sending your own thread off topic, in the OP!

Maybe that is why NINTENDO games are so good is becuase they don't just stick with one genre and each game is using a few.

Because apparently, tech demo, Wii Sports and Wii Play are used in the same sentence or paragraph.

Well I think Wii Sports is a Arcade game. But then again I just read a article on that so...
