Forums - Nintendo - CoroCoro and Numerous Retailers Confirm WiFi Battle Mode in SSBB

Numerous Japanese retailers have now listed Brawl as having an online battle mode.

The bad news is that Nintendo hasn’t confirmed any of this information yet. The good news is that it comes from multiple Japanese retailer listings, and they usually are on the money. These listings state a Nov. 22nd release date for Brawl in Japan, and they also show the game as wifi capable. It’s not official, but it’s one small step towards an announcement.

For those who don't know, CoroCoro is a manga magazine for young kids in Japan.  It's NOT a video game magazine but they are well known for their accurate inside information about Nintendo games (most commonly inside information on new pokemon games and new features in them).

If you didn’t trust the Japanese retailers earlier this morning, maybe this will give you a little more hope. Well known Japanese magazine Coro Coro is reporting that Brawl will indeed ship on Nov. 22nd in Japan, and will feature a wifi battle mode. With Coro Coro reporting this, I think it’s safe to say that wifi play is a lock.

GoNintendo is not the most reliable news source ever, and I am in no way saying this is a 100% lock, but it does seem like it's getting extremely likely when you have a source like CoroCoro reporting it.  Thoughts?

Neat, online play is about the only thing more you can ask of SSBB at this point. I don't even know where they are going to go with the next installment as it is!

To Each Man, Responsibility

Yes Soriku I can read the date on the website too, however it was unreported by most major news sources, and never made it to this site. It's for the benefit of people here.

Here's hoping this is accurate.

I hope to God this is accurate but I'm taking it with a grain of salt. Even reliable retailers are retailers who will do whatever they can to sell a game.

i personally think that Sonic is gonna be announced right around the time NiGHTS is released (good ol' cross-promoting) and online won't be officially announced until after MoH (w/ online) has been out for a few weeks (so personally, i think sonic and online will be announced mid-november, VERY close to one another).

Its totally the kind of thing Nintendo would do... especially because MoH got a pretty decent announcement at Nintendo's E3 conference.

This bombardment of recent rumors about SSBB online is making me believe it's really true...

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I agree, however remember that CoroCoro makes no profit by claiming it has online.  They are not a retailer and they do have a history of accurately reporting inside information on Nintendo games.  So yeah, I agree that you should take it with a grain of salt (or 2), but the evidence is certainly starting to look strong with so many recent reports and rumors.

I really hope this is correct... but I'm trying to not get that excited about it. It would be a letdown then.

I'm still gonna tell myself there's no online, because I don't want to disappoint myself like so many fans are building themselves up to do.

If it's too laggy, which is very possible (See Madden '08), then I'd bet they'd pull the plug on online play, and simply never announce it, or flat out confirm there is no online sometime later this year.

I freakin hope that doesn't happen...
