Forums - Sales - SCEA: increase of 130 percent of PS3 hardware sales for holiday season

NPD numbers only:

Can someone tell me what the PS3 did NPD wise, last year total.
Also, what's the 2008 YTD according to NPD?

Take last year's multiply by 1.4. Then subract 2008 YTD from that number to get a ballpark estimate of Dec NPD.

See my post earlier in the thread, it comes to 760k, but he said "nearly 40%", so should be a little less. I'm guessing he's basing this on SCEA internal data though, so it may not necessarily match NPD data.

Agreed. He's talking shipped. Sold and thus NPD will should come in under that. I'm curious if he's including Canada in his figures also. MS and Sony tend to be sketchy about when they use our 51st state for their numbers. Alas, I expect MS to doe their usual boasting prior to NPD as they have been since the price cuts.

Not really agreed, when I said SCEA internal data, I meant internal sell through data, not shipped data. SCEA have their own estimates on sold through figures from retailers.

ROFLOL...no price cut needed then...won't it be easier if they also posted the figures from last year and this...like, we sold XXX amount this year, vice XXX amount last year...lol.

In case it's not obvious to everyone, PS3 Dec sales will be down from last Dec. That's what the numbers they released means.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

For not having a price drop and being very expensive, it is selling very good. 360 only started outselling it after there price drop. The PS3 and Sony are both fine and the PS3 will sell very well this year, just like it did last year. Some outstanding and very anticipated games are coming out next year. GT5 alone will move a crap load of consoles in Dec.

The PS3 is doing well.

4 ≈ One

Something you should remember about WW numbers for '07 is that the PS3 wasn't launched in its best market (EU) until late March. The same period in '08 in the EU produced more than 1M extra sales (for the period of 1/5 to 3/15) that weren't possible in '07. That's nearly 10% of this year's overall WW sales so it is far from insignificant.
