When the PS3 first released it was supposed to be the system that would win the console wars for a second generation in a row. Two years later however, it finds itself in dead last with no real turn around in sight. What the hell is the problem? THE SYSTEM SUCKS!!!!…….Nah it doesn’t suck calm down fanboys. The problem I see is a lack of good content. It’s like a mirage in the desert. You think you see a good title coming out *cough*Lair*cough* but you realize it was just an illusion… your controller becomes sand when you come to it and you wonder to yourself…What did I just play?
The Games
Now if I’m not mistaken, which I don’t think I am…shouldn’t a game console have put games first? If that truly is the case which it is, where the hell are all the games? Sure there are some really good one like say MGS 4. That was a great game but at the same time it was an even better movie. I enjoyed watching 40 minutes worth of cut scenes then playing for 15 minutes only to be interrupted with another 30 minutes of cut scenes. I had fun…. I think. Wait…did I? I don’t even know. Right back to what I was saying. Games like Drakes Uncharted and Heavenly sword are really good but I’ve played those before, they were called Tomb Raider and God of War. Resistance was good and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is half a game. Ratchet and Clank is also a great game but, is that a system seller? The one really stand out title I’ve seen recently is Little Big Planet. That game gets kudos for being different than anything else on the market today and it looks damn good too.
Now for those that own the system, take a look at the line up for the PS3. Now are there games that you could recommend to any that would make then say “Oh my God, I have got to get this system” Aside from MGS 4 and Little Big Planet? There are some excellent games like Fallout 3, Call of Duty 4, and World at War. Some may say Mirrors Edge is good along with Dead Space and Skate and a host of other titles. The problem is these titles are on other systems and for all intents and purposes play better on the other systems, as well when they go head to head with each other. Then there are the games that were supposed to be exclusive to the PS3 but ended up being multi-platform releases. Virtua Fighter 5, Devil May Cry 4 (with no 5 gig install on the “other” system), Assassins Creed, and to some the real kick in the nuts…GTA IV. Wonder how that felt to learn there was going be a simultaneous release on both consoles…All is not lost however, they managed to keep games like Folklore, Disgaea, Motor Storm and War Hawk exclusive. Those games are awesome right? I mean War Hawk was supposed to be THE multiplayer game to have on the system. Which brings me to PSN…

Why is it so terrible? That’s a simple question to answer; I believe the saying is “You get what you pay for”. With the free servers that are average at best, you are bound to have some sort of problems unless you’re running on a T1 connection. Connection drops, DNS errors, poor download speeds when downloading demos come on…Sure other services make you pay for them but at least they are stable and easy to get online with. So in actuality, I didn’t get what the fuck I paid for because I shelled out anywhere between 400 - 600 dollars for this damn thing. Give me stable servers damn it… Oh and SOCOM Confrontation is garbage. Yes that was random but it needed to be said. They ruined that series and they should just let it die and never come out with another one again. Hey at least it came out with a cool ass blue tooth head set. Other then the poor online gaming part they do give you the option to browse the web. I admit I wish that this feature were on all systems but still that doesn’t warrant a purchase. The option to download movies is cool too but that’s on the competitions console also so once again, I’ll pass. I also like the cross media bar, I liked it more when it came out on the PSP four years ago…

What’s left for Sony to do? They finally released there coup de grace. HOME!!!!! YEAH!!! After 2 years of them talking about this feature they release it to the public. FAIL… That seems to be the general consensus. Everyone was so hyped about this and all they got was a poor character creator. Then there are the perverts who have no real interaction with females in the outside world harassing them online. Pay for clothing? What? Pay for furniture to pimp my apartment with real money? Get the hell out of here with that. Hey there’s a pool table let’s play. Awww someone is already there and I have to wait. Okay lets bowl…Damn I have to wait for that too. Hmm… So what am I to do? I can run around a mall doing the running man till I get bored and decide to watch MGS 4…
Final Thought
Well not everything is bad…I mean look at the titles coming out exclusively for the PS3 this year. You’ve got Tekken 6… Wait that’s coming out on the 360 also. Hmm, well there’s FF XIII oops damn I almost forgot no longer exclusive. The one game I look forward to on the PS3 is Kill Zone 2 because I was one of the few that really liked the first one on PS2. I hope for all the PS3 owner’s sake this game turns out to be bad ass. I hope Sony turns things around so I can stop listening to people say “I feel sorry for my PS3 it just sits there collecting dust. I buy single player games just so I can play the damn thing.” When your console gets pity purchases that is not a good thing.
