Once upon a time (last month) I put off two 12 page essays until the night before.
...
I wrote over 20,000 words that night; it was the roughest all-nighter of my life.
The second essay was pretty damn shitty, but I got 'em done.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

I did every single piece of my GCSE English coursework in an evening each. Got the best marks in the class too, but hated every minute of it...

i dont do it for long sessions but i do alot in them
3500 words in 3 hours was quite alot for me

My girlfriend had this douchebag stats professor last semester and every two weeks they had to write up a stats paper. She had to produce a 45 page report or so (not all text many diagrams with analysis etc {i was actually impressed), but it took her a long time to complete the assignment. I think she did a lot more than other students because she was given 50/45 on each assignment and offered a research internship. So Work hard on that homework! I on the otherhand maybe spend 5 hours max on an assignment. 10-12 on a paper (8 pages or so).

Edit: Oh and my longest single day of studying had to be for my Chaucer, Spenser, Donne, Milton English class and I spent about 13 hours studying and it sucked. I was pissed because I ended up with a B+ in the class, I worked my ass off the entire semester.

How short were the words you used? I think the average report I do is around 4000 words and usually they take up 15+ pages (With a few graphs) and they take me a good week of solid work. Also my dissertation is projected to be around 11,000 words, which is going to take me months to write to a satisafctory level. I have already wrote 5,000 words and it has taken me about three weeks so far to get it to the standard I think acceptable.

I'm sorry but, how can you or anyone write 20,000 words in one night (I'm not even factoring research, quality, references, format, etc into the equation). If I was to copy out a 20,000 word book where I didn't have to think about the words it would still take me days to complete.

Right lets say in theory you worked for 12 hours with no breaks and no fluctuations in speed, to reach 20,000 words you would have to 27.7' words per minute, which is hard for anyone to keep up.

I'm not denying that you did two essays, but you could not have done them in one night.

Sorry if I caused offense.

On topic: I think I have done 10 hour days a few times, but an average day would usually consist of two hours of  concentrating my ass off and the maybe another two or three in front of the TV tapping the keyboard while I watch TV.

About an hour or less. I have free periods at school to do them so I don't have to worry about it at home.

Are you very efficient, or is this just the american high school system? In high school in Canada it wasn't that much work but there were time were i had to throw in 4, 5 hours.

I dont do homework, as i dont believe in it. Im at university now, so i havent exactly suffered as a result of it

17 hours once, well depends on how you count it.

I had been sick from school for 3 weeks, and we had 2 texts (written at home), 1 test, and 1 presentation.

So I didn't sleep that night, but did 3 weeks of work in that time.

You could count it as 9 and 8 though, if you count a day from midnight to midnight. 17 hours is if you count by wake-up to bed-time.

Another time I had to work for ~ 10 hours, as I had been sick for 2 months, and had a math exam (mock-exam) the following day (a monday).
