I'm sure about 70% of members on this site do.

You know lol ..

Sony could be declaring backrupcty ( 100% NOT going to happen I KNOW ALREADY!)
and Sony FANS would still be saying

"Sony's alright, they'll be ok!"

Same thing goes the other way around.

If something good happens, other fanboys immediately dismiss it, or try to bash it.

"you know lol..."

Can't remember the last time something good happened to Sony ... if you're talking about Sonys games I think they get a lot of praise actually ... all across the board.

About a month ago, I was predicting a price cut before the holidays. A Spring price cut has always looked pretty unrealistic to me.

In the past few weeks, it has been changing to "if one happens, it will be before the holidays". This article puts it firmly there.

The only way there'll be a price cut in Q1-Q3 is if the exchange rates recover to help profitability.

@ seece: well, the critical acclaim LBP got, and the "low" sales were a reason for people to bash whatever they could, using the most outrageous sony fanboy-claims as "truth".

WKC performing well, and being bashed for the low score and the "well, it's on a bigger system, well duh".

Good news on this site isn't accepted either. The faster it can be bashed, the better.

I don't see people bashing LBP as a game, more its sales. Nobody to blame but overhype from fanboys on this site.

WKC did very well in Japan, and an even better second week than people were expecting. There you go :)

I dont expect a price cut, but boy, do they need one

I think that we must view the Playstation 3 under 2 lights when we talk about them needing a price cut:

  • The Fanboy View: The Playstation 3 needs a cut, ASAP. It's getting hammered by the 360 and obliterated by the 360. Developers will pidgeonhole the PS3 as the lean-to when announcing new 360-focused HD games. A major $100 price cut would do wonders for sales.
  • The Business View: The Playstation 3 is almost making money right now, selling a decent bit of software, but Sony is getting hurt financially. A price cut would negate whatever advantages they will achieve soon (which is making money on the PS3 through HW and SW sales).

You can't cut prices, from a CEO/business view to remain competitive, if the product winds up hurting you in the end. It's a tough thing to think that Sony may not cut the price until late 09, and then have a smaller drop than we want, but the PS3 is in, financially, a 'good' position to at least begin to earn some money back this year - which would be destroyed by a price cut.

Furthermore, what is a price cut really going to do? If the PS3 marketshare continues to dwindle, it's not like developers are going to flock away from the PS3 any more than they have - The PS3 is still (and would be, even with a price cut) the last resort console for exclusives. But even if they lose more marketshare, they are still going to be a very viable console for multi-platform games, which plays to the PS3's favor - Even if they don't sell many consoles, their software lineup can still be good via 1st parties, and lots of multi-plat 3rd party games.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

@ stickball: they are rumoured to drop some parts of their company. Can't they use the money they save there to back a price drop? Or is that stupid economics? >_>

This is what I was just thinking.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

If they drop parts of their company (which is likely), it will be to save money and get into safer territory. Immediately spending the saved money makes no sense.

The saved money should go towards paying back debt and building up as much cash as possible in order to survive the recession.

Dunno about the price cut, but the way things are going, I won't be surprised to see bad things happen to SCE.

@ kowenicki: well, isn't it "reducing your part in your movie stand, to increase it in the cigarette stand, because you know you may stand to make quite a bit of money if that sells well" instead of just focusing the attention on more than one thing?
