In less than 2 years on the market it dwarfs any other consoles game library for that short amount of time.

The end

....hm...

...Nah, the N64 kicked it in the nuts

Didn't n64 have Mario 64 and pilotwings as only games for 6 months?

What? No. In the first holiday alone we also had Wave Race, Shadows of the Empire, Killer instinct Gold....

That's all I owned at the time, but we couldn't afford more than that so I don't know what else we could have reasonably wanted.

I've noticed a trend, pretty much every gamer today agrees that Dreamcast was the best console ever.  The absolute peak of gaming, every game for DC was a gem and woe is you for stupidly going for a PS2 back in the day.  Do they really believe that, or do they just want to sound interesting?

If everyone who says "dreamcast was the best!@" had actually bought one, Sega would still be making hardware.

Where did this belief start, and why?

The amount of highly rated (85+) PS2 games is greater than the entire Dreamcast library, bad games and all.  (yes, shocking as it sounds, bad games were released on Dreamcast).

Even Gamecube's library dwarfs Dreamcast, even if you only count highly rated games.

And the few highly rated Dreamcast games, like Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue and Ikaruga, were released on other platforms.

I know there are hundreds of Dreamcast fans here, so please tell me, if you could only have one console for the rest of your life, would you honestly pick Dreamcast?

One can argue the Dreamcast was, among all systems that failed in the market, the best.  It was cut short too early.  It was a 2D powerhouse and held its own early against the PS2.  It has games, like the original Crazy Taxi (and a few others) that were nowhere as good as on the PS2.  People who argued the loss of the system was no big deal, because they would get their games on the PS2, got disappointing games.
HOWEVER, any system that has a fairly long life, and sells well, will end up having more really good titles.  This is by the law of probability above anything else.  It happens.  This is why people are concerned about which system will sell the best, because they feel safer that their investment would pay out in the end.

The Dreamcast is great. So great, that it's my Xbox Live gamertag.

Ooo, you must be ticking off some other Sega fanboys by snagging that.  So, you get offers for your gamertag by others out there?

I think the fact that the dreamcast had so many great series for it in such a short amount of time was because sega knew they needed incredibly strong sales to fight off the incoming ps2. In fact, Sega basically tried a "Blitzkrieg". It failed.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

I agree, the Dreamcast is the biggest load of garbage to appear in the gaming industry. it didn't last long, it died before the very first batch of Triple A-PS2 titles appeared, it had VERY FEW GAMES, the controller was sh*t, Sega screwed its fanbase, I only cared about 1 game(Code Veronica) and it went to the PS2, and it had little momentum because all the AAA games were announced for the PS2 (FFX, MGS2, GT3).

1)PS2
2)PSone
3)SNES
4)N64
5)NES

Wow, are you sure you've even played on a Dreamcast? I'm sure there's a garbage fanboy site that would love these uneducated views.

Well for starters.. I hang out on ALLOT of game forums and I can honestly say I can't remember post in present time were they said the Dreamcast was "The absolute peak of gaming", maybe in 1999/2000...

I think it's a rarity to praise the Dreamcast with out even owning one.. besides the typical "played it at my friends house".

I mean if your talking about the threads/ replies on this site, the site doesn't even have 1 million users, and Dreamcast sold over 1 millions units.....

The Dreamcast brought plenty of amazing games to the table. PSO, NFL 2K1, Soul Calibur, Power Stone, Sonic Adventure, Seaman, Jetset Radio, etc;

It also brought the First Online Console to the Table. (Phantasy Star Online was my first MMO, I remember playin that game endlessly.) That alone made it an amazing console.

It had Mouse and Keyboard support for games and Internet on your TV.

Excellent memory VMU units, so you can take part of your game with you, level up, get more money, collect / unlock items all on the go...

It was also an amazing console for it's price ($199.99 out the gate). Everyone could enjoy it... it wasn't at a point were people had to save paycheck after paycheck to own one.

Sadly the Dreamcast failed because of crappy ports, easy to copy games (just burn and play, no mod chip) and the loss of 3rd parties, much after the expensive Saturn aftermath SEGA lost interests with developers.

I don't know why you mention Dreamcast games going to other consoles after it was gone.. that really has nothing to do with the Dreamcast, other then people liked the Dreamcast games so much that they wanted them on other consoles. (SEGAGT / Jetset Radio Xbox Pack)

Much like why Dreamcast games are coming up for Download on a console near you in the not to distant future.

If I only had one console It would be the Dreamcast Hands Down, give me my VMU's, Games, Modem, SEGA Online, Mouse / Keyboard, Yepp! Dreamcast all the way!

Yes I still play my Dreamcast, but I play all my classic systems.

I just don't get what's so great about it.  the Genesis(Mortal Kombat) was awesome, the Saturn (Virtua Fighter 2, Panzer Dragoon)was.....ok.  fans are gonna kill me but Shenmue didn't appeal to me. DC might have lived if MS didn't enter the gaming industry.

Don't worry.. you were like 10 when it was released and 12 when it dead... it was for the cooler older kids back then.. You just had to be there at that time to truly appreciate the Dreamcast..

The DC did kinda only last less than 2(17 months in NA) yrs on the market.. for such a short time it did have the best unrivaled game library ever, superior to whatever the ps2 or GC offered in its first 2 yrs of existence.

This, totally. The console was off to a strong start, arguably the strongest system launch (gamewise) that I can remember, and its that sense of loss, the notion of what might have been, that picks at the brains of the few gamers who owned the thing.

That said, while the DC does deserve much credit for its brief but bright time on the stage, its wrong for anyone to assume that it would have been able to keep that streak going. Could DC have nabbed GTA3, or Devil May Cry? What about Resident Evil 4?

I loved my Dreamcast and although I only had a few games, I really enjoyed it and played it a lot. Sadly I lost my Dreamcast and most of the games I had.
