the dreamcast has JFK syndrom... in a few years we will find out it was having an adulturous relationship with the Gamecube and it will stain its legacy.

More like with the Xbox. But only after it was dead. Eww.

No you have it wrong... the Xbox did unspeakable things to the DCs poor corpse...

(crappy DC ports)

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

You can't blame them. The Dreamcast left a pretty sexy corpse. We've all been tempted by one of those.

As I understand it, these are the reasons Sega stopped supporting hardware in the middle of the Dreamcast era:

1) The previous Sega consoles did not do so well, putting Sega in a bad position going into the Dreamcast stage.
2) Sega was selling the Dreamcast at a loss, like many game console manufacturers do. The loss of money from selling dreamcasts did not work well for the company.

So the Dreamcast may have been a great console, but things were not going Sega's way at the time. That is what I believe happened.

1. I love the Dreamcast because it was an unabashed quick-fix game machine, with a massive array of arcade-style titles that appealed to the growing-up-in-80s-arcades kid in me but killed it for a broader audience that wanted a much wider, deeper, selection of titles (everything from sports games to JRPGs).

2. I think you're working from false premises: I don't there is anything more than a very extreme core of gamers that think the DC was the best console ever and, like a lot of things in life, the true believers are the most vocal about it (also see: global warming supporters; adult converts to almost any religion; etc.).

And, no, I do not think the DC was the best ever.

I remember sinking nearly 100 hours into Marvel vs. Capcom 2 alone, not to mention all the other great games the system had. Dreamcast will always be my favorite console ever. Heck we still fire the damn thing up every once in a while to play MvC2 tourneys at a friends house.

Dont forget Super Street fighter 2X...which had an online mode that actually ran pretty good for a 56k modem(or so I heard). Infact they used that games online code for the Super Street fighter 2 remake on psn and xbox live that came out few weeks back.

"HD Remix is a heavily modified port of Super Street Fighter II X for Matching Service, a Dreamcast version of Super Turbo released only in Japan that featured an online versus mode"

Wow, I didnt know that, lol the Dreamcast legacy continues!

A Dreamcast Troll? Really? What the hell, the console is not for sale anymore! It's not taking market share from your console of choice! It's GONE! So if people want to praise the gaming machine, just let them! My God, the stuff you see in these forums...

The Dreamcast is great. So great, that it's my Xbox Live gamertag.

Great gamertag, the Dreamcast died a LEGEND, sony won't be able to say that when microsoft finish them off in the console wars, afterall, 90% of the best games on ps1, ps2 and ps3 are 2nd & 3rd party.

Well done to Konami, namco, capcom, square and many more REAL companies for making the playstation the success it was.
