Kutaragi's absence is a bit troubling. He's been the one pushing the BC in the PS brand and I'm worried that this could be lost as my backlog of PS format games from the years still see some use.

One thing I know for sure is that ps4 would be built for profit from the start.

Protip: keep your older consoles.

Assuming there is one (which I believe is likely), then there are two scenarios

Upgraded PS3 scenario
Processor: They'll probably keep the Cell, most likely ramped up slightly, 3.5 Ghz, faster BUS and better bandwidth and all those numers.

RAM: The only significant improvement. Quite probably 2 GB

Disc Drive - Sony have upped the disk drive every generation. This time I don't think they will. Perhaps an 8x Blu Ray Player that is actually capable of reading the high capacity Blu Ray disks

Harddrive - will probably start at about 320 gb, maybe even more if conventional harddrives keep going the way they are going. Hopefully 7200 rpm as opposed to the 5400 rpm, which is fast becoming outdated

Graphics card - if they have 1 gb ram, it'll mostly likely be a 512 mb card. If it has 2 gb ram, it might even take a leaf out of the 360's book and share this with the graphics card


Reinventing the wheel scenario
Processsor - cell thrown out for something that gives more bang for your buck
RAM 2 gb
Disc Drive - that Blu Ray killer that was mentioned a few days ago - single layer is 25 gb, and is as cheap as dvd drives
harddrive - One model has a 320 gb harddrive, one has a 64 gb flash drive. Both allow swapping harddrives with laptops

PS4 will be more powerful than the next Nintendo console but will be equal or less powerful than the XBox 720. PS4 could be an improved version of PS3, 16 processors instead of 8, 1 GB GPU and 1 GB CPU, 1 Tetra HDD.

I have no fucking clue about anything technical. Its graphics will be better and slightly more powerful than PS3. Not as drastic as the upgrade from PS2 to PS3, but enough of a difference.

I guarantee it will be MORE than a PS3 in a PS4 shell with some new gimmick.

It is really tough considering we have noi idea when the PS4 will come out.

There will be a PS4, don't kid yourself.

I do not want to see another Playstation until 2014, but later would be even better. Supposing it hit at that point here is what I would expect.

Processor - Cell (8 cores 2MB cache each, 64 SPE's 1MB SRAM each)

GPU - a second Cell, or nVidia GPU (If it is nVidia GPU I expect Sony to work closer with them to make a more advanced GPU, that built to work in conjunction with the Cell tech)

RAM - 4GB Rambus for CPU, 4GB Rambus for GPU (I think they will try to be exclusive to rambus with the PS4 by either using a second Cell, or working closly with the GPU provider to get their tech working with rambus RAM)

Storage - Blu-ray/DVD/CD combo drive (BR 12x, DVD 12X, CD 24x. Capable of reading 500GB BRD)

Memory - SSD/Cloud (I expect the systems to come with a 1TB SSD chip, and for most software to be held on servers. Internet speeds should be 5 - 10 times fast in 5 years from now making server storage much more convinent)

I/O - 6 USB 3.0, Blue Tooth, Memory Card Reader, 10Gb Ethernet, 2 wireless HDMI

All electronics break eventually. THis is why I like the continuity.
