Forums - Gaming - Is It Justifiable Comparing The Wii To PS360?

4) Third Party games can't compete with Nintendo's?

Another assumption but taking Shaun White as an example (mainly because it is one of the few examples where I completely seperate Wii version was developed):

Wii -  670K (Gold)  sold 90K last week
Xbox 360 - 470K sold 62K last week
PS3 - 370K  sold 40K last week
DS - 7K (not in top 200)
PS2 - 0K (not in top 200)
PSP - 7K (not in top 200)

Anyone care to speculate which version is making the most money and will end up selling the most?

A similar computation could apply on on Guitar Hero and other. When your highest sales are coupled with the lowest development costs .....

Honestly, no you can't compare PS360 to the Wii.

Not really about power or games. Honestly, Wii has done what every console has said it wanted to do. They have made a system that is acceptable to be in the living room. Everyone (and I mean average home owners, don't start with I don't have this or we don't have that stuff) has a TV in the living room up to the 80's. By the 90s, it was the TV and the VCR (replaced by DVD in early part of 2k) Sony came the closest when it snuck a DVD player in the PS2 and people wanted to do that. But Nintendo has finally done it. It has created a game console as acceptable in the living room. With or without kids. They have made it so social acceptable to a have a Wii console in the living room that I think a lot of owners have it a just a show piece now. Yea you will see a 360 or PS3 here and there but its like a real talking point when you have a Wii.

PS3 and 360 has the gamer enthusiast crowd audience without a doubt, Wii has become the world little darling and literally has become must have for the living room to go along with your TV and DVD player.

I'm just saying...

^One of the points I made in my first post. Wii is becoming a home device.

I mean Sure It sells bucketloads more than either but so does the DS.
I mean my reasoning been is you dont have a similar gaming experience with it imo.

Lets be honest we can argue about game B been better than game A on Either PS3 or 360 but you never see anyone saying same game looks better or worse on Wii.

(clip)So it is not a similar console to PS360 imo. This is not to say Wii is better or worse than PS360 as a gaming experience as I am sure Wii owners will say it is better.

But to compare the 3 as been the same type of console is not really accurate.

My opinion only but I reckon I am corect in my analysis of the situation.

I can see how you would like there to be no comparison because on multi-platform releases, the PS360 does not always automatically win and if you compare last years games to versions the year before the difference is getting tighter as 1) 3rd party developers start to learn how to use the Wiis strengths and 2) As they start to write version for the Wii rather than just cramming over a sorry port and glueing on controls:

And because when I posted something like this in the past, I got back responses stating as though it were a fact that when a Wii score looks comparable or better that is because the reviewers don't judge them against each other or on the same scale.

IF YOU BELIEVE THAT BS - PLEASE READ SOME QUOTATIONS FROM REVIEWS BELOW THAT PROVE THE CONTRARY. If you already knew that was crap, then the reading is oppotional but kinda fun.

1Up (100) Shaun White's Wii excursion is better than its PS3/XB360 counterparts in almost every respect. Although they share Shaun White's visage and a snowboarding theme, not much else ties Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip to its PS3/Xbox 360 counterpart -- and that's a good thing. While the more powerful console version looks arguably better, obtuse controls and a misleading map make exploring it feel like an uphill trek. For now, the underpowered Wii provides the best Shaun White experience.

VideoGamer (80)  DuuuuuuuuuuuudeYeah!, Shaun White is soooooo awesome! It's, like, full of awesomeness! It's so awesome, it's super awesome! And so on and so forth. Yes, you're going to have to put up with snowboarding street speak throughout Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip on the Wii, but, somewhat surprisingly, it's actually worth it, because, while this is no SSX, it's good, no-nonsense fun. And it's better than Shaun White on 360 and PS3, by quite a margin, too. Tom gave that game a 6/10 in his review, criticising the overly awkward controls and laborious open world travelling. Road Trip doesn't suffer from any of that, making it the definitive version of the game.

GamePro (80) I'd recommend Shaun White's Wii adventure over his less impressive 360 and PS3 treks. It's a tighter, more polished experience that puts the focus on fun over the other entries' ambitious, but not always rewarding free-roaming gameplay. And the Wii-mote support, though not quite as gnarly as the balance board play, still offers a great way to rail-grind, flip, jump, and race your way down the digital slopes.

GameSpot (75) Shaun White Snowboarding on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 offered an unfocused and often boring rendition of the popular winter sport. Featuring sprawling mountains that looked pretty but provided little in the way of content, the game spent more time forcing you to hunt for coins hidden across the expansive environments than letting you take part in actual snowboarding competitions. Thankfully, the Wii version is a completely different experience. The wide-open mountains have been replaced with well-constructed paths down chilly slopes, the inane quests for secret coins have been scrapped, and the emphasis has been placed on pulling off wicked jumps and crazy tricks. More importantly, the controls have been revamped and now take full advantage of not only the motion controls of the Wii Remote, but the Wii Balance Board as well. Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip is a satisfying re-creation of snowboarding,

Game Zone (8.3) That is yet another dynamic that makes Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip for Wii the best version available.

Your argument would make sense if indeed third partys were coming on board.

But where are they for goodness sake.

Whats funny is you have a long list of third party games right in-front of you as you make that post. If you are going to just throw out incorrect talking points the least you could do is make sure they aren't disproven by the text you are quoting. I mean really now.

All three are competitors, but, they are all three designed for different demographs. This is like comparing a Ford F150 truck with a Toyota Camry. They are both vehicles, but are designed to do two different things and appeal to different people.

uh almost.   Lets say one is Ford, one is Chevy, on is Toyota or whatever you want to say.

They each have their cars, trucks, sports cars and what not.  Apparantly just because one is also selling mini vans you think they aren't a competitor.

Apparently you did not read the first four words of my statement.

@aavidbacon:A niche market can not be a larger market...  You could say the Wii is the larger market, and that the PS3 and 360 are now in the smaller niche HD console market...

For lack of a better source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niche_market

"A distinct niche market usually evolves when a potential demand for a product or service is not met by any supply, or when a new demand arises due to changes in society, technology, or the general environment."

That´s my point. The market reached by the Wii wasn´t contemplated by the maninstream. Nintendo understood that and suplied what they wanted and Tcharannn, discovered a huge market.

The thing is, like you said, the wii type of market is becoming mainstream, just as traditional gaming was. The difference here is that the aproach to gamming didn´t change, but how people interact. Everyone will have a Wii, but still think videogames are a waste of time, only for Nerds. They will say "but the wii is fun...", justifiyng their purchase, but will likelly not jump to gamming as you did back then when you first played Mario in a NES or SNES(like I did, but it was Sonic in a Master System).

Obviously it's justifyable to compare the consoles.

I paid about the same for my Wii as for my 360, so expect the same: good games. Personally I don't care about graphics, my Virtual Console gets lots of playtime, but the games themselves are really important. There are good games on all 3 consoles and that's their basic function as a gameconsole: playing games.

They're also in competition for the same costumers. Obviously their markets don't have a 100% overlap, but in general a costumer looking for a gamesystem will make a choice among the three based on perceived value.

The most important part where they are in competition is for developer investments. It's been noted before, but the combination of Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest could basically have saved the PS3 in Japan.
Smaller core franchises like Tenchu, House of the Dead, Fatal Frame, Tales, Sonic (storybook), etc don't do a whole lot on their own, but combined offer a very nice library that would have broadened the PS360 library as well.

They are competing for the same market. "Casuals" who buy a nintendo wii will not buy a ps360 now. So yes it is justifiable comparing the 2.
