I am absolutely willing to admit the Wii is far and away the sales leader this generation...however I do NOT think that the Wii and the 360/PS3 are targeted at the exact same demographic and therefor can understand Reask's line of reasoning.

The Wii has expanded the market to such a degree that "non" gamers are becoming gamers...something MS and Sony have been hoping to do for years. However I would posit that for a certain demographic, the Wii simply is not an option for the types of games that PS3/360 offers. To deny this, I think is disingenuous.

Please note that I've made no comment on the "superiority" of any of the consoles. Given my gamertag and post history I'm sure many of you will come to your own conclusions. That's fair, but I just don't think that many of the 360/PS3 owners on this board (and to generalize horrendously I know, anywhere) consider the Wii a direct competitor for the type of gaming experience the PS3/360 offer. Hell I don't think Nintendo does, they specifically went after a DIFFERENT experience.

Now if I admit that the Wii is absolutely dominating sales this generation, why would my above comments upset Wii owners?

 CoD 5 uses the CoD 4 engine, and is on the Wii. One mght be able to argue from that tid-bit that maybe, just maybe CoD 4 could be ported to the Wii. I guess I am just crazy though.

 Your entire premise is flawed. No one compares the graphics between the Wii and PS360 because the PS360 will be better. That has nothing to do with whether ot not they are competing. The very large number of multi-platform titles between all three systems would seem to imply that the three are in competition.

Listen man, say the Wii targets "everyone" right? doesn't that include that demographic of "hardcore gamers"? (hate that word) Like others have said we compare the DS and PSP, and guess what the difference in power between the handhelds is probably comparable to the tech difference between Wii and HD consoles, so what's the beef?

How many times are we going to ressurect these failed theories? Next thing you know we're gonna have a post saying "Wii doesn't sell third party software" Uh oh.

Honestly what it sounds like is the HD fans are way behind the Wii and so now its "lets change the rules, we're not in the same race" Its complete nonsense, I seriously doubt this would even be a topic if the Wii were in the PS3's position and PS3 in Wii's.

It´s really simple. PS3,WII and 360 are all homeconsoles for videogames.
You play games on them.
It doesn´t matter what technical power they have.
They are competing in the same race for customers and developers.
Is that so hard to understand?

To the OP who said we don´t compare DS and PSP. Are you joking? Just take a look at the frontpage. You can see DS and PSP salesnumbers at the portables.

Also I repeat my statement earlier:
Sony and Microsoft fanboys would not have any problem comparing WII with their system of choise if Wii sales would lag behind PS3 and/or 360.

All three are competitors, but, they are all three designed for different demographs. This is like comparing a Ford F150 truck with a Toyota Camry. They are both vehicles, but are designed to do two different things and appeal to different people.

uh almost.   Lets say one is Ford, one is Chevy, on is Toyota or whatever you want to say.

They each have their cars, trucks, sports cars and what not.  Apparantly just because one is also selling mini vans you think they aren't a competitor.

But if 90 plus % of games are playable on 2 systems youre competing.

If 5%  of games are playable youre not imo
