Forums - Nintendo - Why NOW Is The Time To Abandon Ship On The Wii

Microsoft has been known to do that?  You have ANY evidence to that?  Companies do use viral marketing agencies, like Microsoft and the Bees thing, and Sony with this "All I want for Christmas is a PSP" nonsense:

But, as for hiring people to post on forums, go ahead and post any evidence that is true...

No I don't have any undisputible evidence but they have been known to work with Arbuthnot Entertainment Group witch had that NVIDIA scandel a while back.

"AEG would hire employees to create 'personas' in various gaming communities, slowly building up the trust of other members by frequent posting unrelated to Nvidia, to later cash in that trust with message board postings talking up the positive qualities of Nvidia's products."

And then there's the famous FUD campaings against linux and apple.

So it's not so unlikely is it?

I dunno, I think the NES and SNES both got a fair amount of hate piled on them. Granted, you'd never know about the NES hate if you weren't in tune with the PC gaming crowd of the era. A lot of PC gamers refused to acknowledge the NES (or SNES, for that matter) as gaming devices or contenders for the same market as PC games, they hated them so much. And of course, Sega supporters piled plenty of anti-Nintendo hate out during the heyday of the Master System and especially the Genesis.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

Hi, I'm Ryan Rigney, the writer of this article. Screw you, Bobbuffalo. You didn't even read the article. At no point in that article did I whine about Nintendo abandoning the "hardcore." I congratulated Nintendo on successfully broadening their market. I didn't complain about it. I just said that I realized that the Wii is no longer for me, and I'm better off selling it and using the money for something that I'll actually use.

There, I shortened it for your tiny brain. Enjoy.

And then you tried to say that others should abandon it, well buddy ,i've probably been gaming longer then you have and I have to say the 360 and PS3 gaming libraries are garbage, but you go enjoy your HD shooters if it makes you feel like an adult, those of us who game for fun will stick to the Wii

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

The NES was hated by the "hardcore" gamers of the 3rd generation, to the same degree as the Wii? That doesn't make any sense. So were the hardcore gamers desperately clinging to the Master System and/or Atari 7800, or did they just refuse to buy this new and incredibly innovative NES? Super Mario Brothers? What kind of sorcery is this?

A fear of "change" is definitely part of it, but most of it is just a preference for the less popular systems, and in turn, hate for the most popular one. The Playstation, contrary to belief at that time, was not very innovative. Yet it was widely hated by Nintendo and Sega fans, bitter that it was the highest selling and most popular console.

It's a combination of both, so we can't be so black and white.

Actually I have heard about that simmilarities from the 80's to nowadays and I have found that it is true.

I was very young when the NES appeared so I can't remember exactly. But I do remember that I had a cousin who was a big Atari2600 fan. Then time passed and he bought a Commodore 64. He didn't wanted to buy a NES.  He didn't bought it until his mother played it and wanted one. He prefered to play in his C64 until the late 80's when he bought Zelda II and SMB3 and lately he sold his C64.

I think it has a lot of simmilarities with today. Many gamers hate the Wii but they buy them for their wifes/moms/dads/children. But in the end, they will be playing with it. ;)

Yeah it's really me. Send me a message via the email account I give on SlapStic and I'll confirm it.

Let me say this: journalism is changing. SlapStic is my personal blog that I made successful by writing what I think, when I think it. I'm not a proffessional: I'm a blogger with a substantial following. So yeah, if I do a google search on my article and find that some random dude posted one of my articles in some forum with an INCREDIBLE misinterpretation of what I had to say, I'll come down on him for it. Shouldn't I? I'm not going to pretend to be some high and mighty celebrity that can't come down and get dirty with the commonfolk. I'm one of you guys.

I sold my Wii and got a new office chair and a FREAKING MINI-FRIDGE.

Mini-fridges > Punch-Out.

So screw off. ;D

So it is really you?! wow! that's SO sad! It seems that now everybody and their cats can be journalist! awesome!

More than ever, I am glad that I pointed to your absurd and poor "article" to laugh and ridiculize.

So screw you too buddy! =D

If somebody's cat was a journalist, I'd be subscribed to that mess with Google Reader in a flash.

And I'm glad that you linked to the article too. More Google ad revenue for me! Cheers!

Hahaha. I sold a mini-fridge pretty close to when I bought Wii Fit, and I can't wait for Punch Out. Take that!
