Terry Pratchett?
If you haven't read it, read "Good Omens"--it's a collaboration between him and Neil Gaiman. Usually not a big fan of collab's, but this one rocks.
From there, segue into more of Neil Gaiman's work. His short fiction is fantastic, but if that's not your thing I'd say start with "Neverwhere" and then move on to "American Gods". He's a very sharp, creative writer; it's hard not to find something you like by him.
