Consumers have chosen Wii and XBox 360 this generation. PS3 will be destined for third place. The 10 year plan is fantasy.

Fixed, Crossed out all the uncalled for remarks.

I think the possibility is something you cannot stand.

Sony decides the lifespan, not the consumers. It doesn't matter what consumers do, Sony will have their consoles out on the market longer than expected. The system could sell great ( PS2), or it could sell terribly (PS3). This should bolster my point that consumers do not sway Sony in the least. Sony milks something until it's dead.

So if consumers stop buying the ps3 tommororo what than?  Just hypothetical

They wont stop the PS3, and the PS3's wont stop selling. The 10 year plan was a response to the people not purchasing the way Kaz Hirai demanded. Especially with the second job talk that Kaz was using. People will get second jobs to pay their bills, not to please Kaz Hirai.

What part of hypothetical don't you understand?

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

I find your lack of arguments disturbing.

lol i find this so funny still.

I TAKE NO SIDES

Im far to lazy to argue, if i state my opinion i will most likely be flamed by someone and to lazy to deal with it. :P

Sony will make PS3's as long as they are selling and profitable. How much they sell is only a concern of Sony, and retailers. If Sony makes a slim PS3 that can be sold for $199, and takes up a lot less space than the current PS3 model, then the chances of it sticking around increase tremidously. If Sony sticks with a large case design taking up major floor space retailers will expect it to be making a lot more sales.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I take marketing. I don't go by faith.

even if Sony wants to sell PS3 for 10 years, retailer won't put it on the shelf if there is no demand from consumers.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I'll protect you under the Validating Machine Shield of Holy Protection.

Expose your arguments that make you believe that if consumers just turn their back to Sony, the company will mantain a platform in the market for 10 years.

Consumers do.

They decide if they want it or not, they will even decide if they want to keep it or more on to the next generation when that time comes.

So can we safelly assume that this 10 year lifeplan is just BS from Sony?

Pretty much...

How many of the current PS3 owners are expected to stick with the PS3 in the next generation? Once the next generation is released it will erode the current usebase as the early adopters start to upgrade. Pretty much most people here on the forum will probably be gaming on a next generation system within 5 years. Of the people who don't upgrade you would expect them to buy fewer and fewer games as time goes by and eventually software will not be released on the PS3.

Tease.

The PS3 will not reach $199 until after 2010. They need to drop the price properly sometime in 3rd quarter 2009. They cannot let the 360 gain too much momentum or by 2nd quarter the 360 will have a 10 M console lead on Sony.
