The numbers are up, and the prediction I made all the way back at the end of 2007 has come true, with time to spare



 

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Not to steal your thunder but there were several folks (myself included) who made the same prediction, most (probably not all) of them are folks who are known for well-reasoned predictions though.

It's still hard to be right for a year in advance but with the Wii selling at near production rates it is made somewhat easier, I think you'll find many of the PS3 and 360 predictions varied by a lot more than the Wii predictions.

I think 80 Million by the end of 2009 would be a long shot though... but maybe you can be right two years in a row :)



MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Congrats to you and all who called the numbers correctly.

I can't find my numbers but I'm pretty sure I called this - or at least within my range.

I think I underpredicted the PS3 and overpredicted the 360, by about a million a piece.

You made the 45 million Wiis sold by end of 2008 prediction like more than a year or so in advance. So you must see the future.

Oh a lot of people doubt my Predicitions, but even the ones I get wrong are pretty close, like Wii probably wont have 50% marketshare when last weeks numbers come in, but it'll probably be above 49.5%, not bad considering when I made these predictions almost 14 mohts ago people were saying it wouldn't even be close.

Well done - I predicted 45m for end of '08 as well, see sig below :)
I also got the PS3 spot on - but the 360 exceeded by expectations (by 10%!)

EDIT - Woohoo, just checked my PSP prediction for end of year :)

DS however, was not quite so close (but I remember making it a big, pessimistic prediction - I wanted 95m, but I thought that was insane at the time...).
