Highest gap there has ever been between the two consoles. Which means the PS3 in its 3rd year has failed to gain back one console on the 360.
Realisticly you have to say that it will be very difficult for the PS3 to get that back.

It will be diffucult. If GT5 can't make it before the end of 2009, it will be impossible for the PS3 to catch up.

Yea thats a big gap. It would have been a completely different story if it wasn't for all of the 360 price drops last year, and just like a 360 price drop had a dramatic effect, a PS3 price drop will also have a dramatic effect.
Great number for the 360. If the PS3 receives it's (rumored) price cut come April, it will be interesting to see the gap come Jan 2010. Great job MS, way to bring it this Gen!

oh of coarse, Sonys gotta do a lot of things right the next 3 years to close that gap...
I think there will be some adjustements made in next months ...judging how GFK said PS3 and 360 sales had been like-for-like in October and November in Europe

I dont think the 360 has heavily outsold the PS3 in here as vgchartz has estimated...so if and when real GFK data trickles in we could see some big adjustements. Also shipment figures will give some hindsight in a few weeks I think .
The PS3 hasn't failed at anything in its 3rd year since it has only had two years on the market... 2009 will be it's third year. The 360 is one year ahead in the lifecycle, don't forget that.
Of course it seems virtually impossible for the PS3 to ever catch up now, but this gen crazy erratic and has been all about comebacks and unexpected events.
One thing's for sure; 2009 will be a very interesting year indeed!

It was the timing of the drop that did it... a drop in march/April wont have anywhere near the same impact. |
oh I know, but a cheaper PS3 in the market will make a big difference, even if its around march/april. Along with the onslaught of games releasing in 2009 will be a momentum changer which is need for a successful holiday.
The only way that the PS3 can catch up now is if the 360 stops selling. The PS3 needs to sell 700k more units than the 360 a month to catch up by Dec 2009 and I can't see that happening.
PC gaming rules.....

That's difficult to say. On the one hand it was the perfect timing, on the other hand its price finally activated the arcade Xbox 360. Previously the Arcade meant nothing but since the price cut it sells about 50% of all Xbox360s.
It seems to attract now casual gamers and the PS-3 might have difficulties to attract this market even with a 299$ price tag.
