Difference between PS3 and PS2/1
Ps3 is a frontrunner of Blu-ray while CD and DVD already existed approximately 5 years. If a format succeeds it will have a lifespan of 15 years. Not saying that the PS3 will have a 15 year life cycle. 8)

If Sony kills Blu-ray in 8 years it would piss off the movie industry and other electronics manufacturers.

Actually no, because Blu Ray existed before the PS3 came out and it was dying. During the PS2 era it caused DVD players prices to drop. This is no different than Blu Ray. The PS3 is the reason why Blu Ray's price dropped. During 2001 VHS was still going strong until the PS2 came out and was one of the key factors in why DVD format went mainstream.

If Sony kills Blu-Ray and comes up with a new format, it's new profits like always.

Yes, or you just want a machine capable of gaming and playing movies.

Only 40% knows about Blu-ray. This means that Blu-ray was 1 of their reasons to buy a PS3. When the public gets more aware of Blu-ray it will be more then 40%.

"Elsewhere, only 40 per cent of those who own a PS3 were aware of it’s capabilities as a Blu-ray player, though the number of those aware of the machines high definition output was considerably higher at 50 per cent, compared to only 30 per cent with Xbox 360."

Because the PS3 was a cheap Blu Ray player in the beginning, it got non-gamers (Who still wont buy videogames for it) to use it as a DVD player. This is why Sony's installed base is so screwed up. Not even 1/4 of installed base buys videogames.

Hmm but still 8years doesn't make sense to me. I think Sony wants Blu-ray to live a while longer. DVD was Toshiba Blu-ray is Sony. Sony had more reasons to kill DVD then to kill Blu-ray.

Killing of Blu-ray makes no sense. Consumers will choose Digital Downloads way faster. Because they have to switch format every 10 years.

I agree on low software ratio's of PS3

Nothing is future proof.

Even a man's penis. What do I mean by this?

Well, look at all these so called "Lesbians". If they were true LESBIANS they wouldn't be using dildos which are pretty much an artificial penis. In the end EVERYTHING is superseeded by something by someone.

No tech product is "future proof"...

"future proof" is an idiotic term put out by moronic marketing types to fool gullable consumers.

I agree.  Technology moves to fast to be able to future proof any technology that ever is introduced in any generation.  What's new today, is a dinosaur tomorrow.

I think that more than anything, the PS3's tech this generation "victory-proofed" it.  In other words, the technology in it made it too expensive to win this generation.

If you watch movies and play games a ps2 is future proof to until its all about steaming and the PS3 can do that too.

400 GB Bluray disk coming out in a few months have former HDDVD owners fuming for obvious reasons. Don't you with your tech was future proof too?

He's right. The same way Gamecube graphics still satisfy Wii owners. They'll remain satisfactory for a long time but they're already being overshadowed by PC games.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy
