I had to buy a computer a while ago... and every once an a while it will Pop up in Firefox a "Gateway Harddrive protection" ad.

What's that about?

I mean... it will pop it up when i'm not even sitting at my computer or doing anything... or like if i'm playing a game.

It's not like a regular popup.

It specifically opens firefox if firefox isn't open and shows the ad.

I might be able to help you, but i need more information:
operating system
computer make and model
and anything else you want to include such as : processor, RAM, HDD etc.
Also, have you made any recent software or hardware changes. How long have you had this problem?

Google doesn't bring anything up.

About as long as i've had the computer as far as i can tell if not shortly after i've just annoyed it cause i didn't used to PC game much.  It pops up like once every week or so.

Adaware doesn't detect it though nor Adwatch.

It's a Emachine T5234.  (Crappy but all i had money for at the time and didn't have time to attempt building).

1GB ram.  Should be 2 soon.

320HDD.

Vista as the system.

It's like... an ad that advertises Gateways harddrive restoration functions or something.

Like it says "Harddrives fail!  Backup your harddrive.... "blah blah blah."

check your add/remove programs for any programs installed that bears the name "gateway" on it.

If it's from gateway its probably in your add/remove programs list.

Hm. Not showing up there.

All in all it's just a weird thing.

Do you have a virus scanner?

If not, install one real quick and run a check.
