Forums - Gaming - Is Super Smash Bros Brawl the most overrated fighting game of all time?

ClaudeLv250 said:

Nope.

If anything, it's underrated.

Exactly. I thought I was the only one who thought this. It was def my favorite game of 08.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I was kind of dissapointed but that was maybe because I played so much Melee. Felt the same but then with extra's it is something I have with a lot of fighting games sequels.

No.

Not much else to say.

I don't think SSBB is overrated, but I don't think is a fighting game neither, I mean, games like Smash Bros. or Power Stone are more party games than fighting games for me...

thats because you don't know anything about the competitive side of the game....go to a tourney and then say it's not a fighting game.  but, i can see why casuals would think it's a party game

Whoa, it's difficult for my to reply this in english xD, I'll try:

@chriscox1121: I actually know about the depth of the game but Smash Bros. was meant to be played as a party game not as a "serious" fighting game like Virtua Fighter, even if you play SSB en Final Destination without items.

And don't get me wrong, I love Smash Brothers I've played them all with my friends since N64 times and are funny as hell.

Yeah, we get it. Multiple button combos give a game depth. Right. Your argument has been stated to death and it still fails. Smash is a fighter regardless of the methodology used to classify a fighting game. You get an F for effort and must repeat fighter class 101.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

No, that title will forever be held by Soul Caliber.

It's my favorite Smash Bros, in my top 3 games this gen, and most played with my friends and I.
But by definition of more hype then fun in overrated, then yes.

It really isn't.

Most overrated though? Probably DoA, in the sense that people actually treat it as if it's a serious competitive game.

it's underrated..best in the series really balanced fighter too

bottom tier still has a chance at top tier

good, good balance

also..it needed more characters and stages and a better stage builder..and..maybe more music

that's my only complaint: it's perfect, but it needs MOAR

Lol, a supporting argument?

i haven't stated my opinion yet

See the way this works is you present some kind of argument and then we discuss.

And answer is no.  If it's overrated, what is it missing?  It's one of the most complete games ever.

On this site maybe. I dont think its game of the year material, and i prefer melees gameplay, but the gameplay is still solid and there are a ton of characters, maps, and songs. (and ways to win)
