Forums - Sony - Polyphony president: 2009 is still target for GT5 but may not make it

Last time I heard, they were working on crash damage for the cars. With the likes of Forza II having damage, all driving simulators must have it. But I also heard because of damage they couldn't have 16 cars racing. Anyway if GT5 doesn't have crash damage I ain't buying.

Missing Christmas/Holiday/End of Year 2009 would be a definite nail in the proverbial coffin of the PS3.

Mike from Morgantown

The game would sell even if it misses 09 christmas... I'm assuming this is Japan launch too and not Europe or US so I dont think GT5 will be out in 09

I think his point was that the PS3 can not afford to have another mediocre holiday shopping season ...

We're hearing a lot about Polyphony wanting to try their hand at other things. It will be really cool if they do end up making that RPG. If they decide to do it, we might even get to play it by 2020!

gt5 delayed....that would be huge. 2009 is of course meant to be the year of the ps3

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Sony need to reel Yamauchi and his team back to reality, this is one time where I can safely say the guy is so far up his own ass he fails to see the light. This game needs to release but in stead he is talking about moving onto making other games.

5 years not long enough for you to make a game Yamauchi? As I said he has a free ride, he is probably in a 6 star hotel now getting ready to go to another car show. -_-

no no no no no, if a guy with a team of 150+ cant make a game in 5 years there are some serious problems. Sony are not saying anything which is the most shocking of all, dont they want the PS3 to actually sell?

Of course who knows what is the real situation, for all we know Sony are holding the game back because they want GT5 releasing with a £100 price cut. Come on now, £200 PS3 + GT5 this christmas = WINNER

GT5 rushed CONFIRMED!!!!!!

How many people are waiting for GT5 before buying a PS3.....?

In Japan possibly quite a number... but elsewhere not that many I wouldn't have thought... maybe I'm wrong.

The longer it takes to come out the less the bump in terms of consoles sold... thats logical surely.

probably less people would be waiting if FFXIII is released before it. However, so far I have yet to see a confirmed release date for FFXIII. Would be a double blow if it also misses 2009.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Sony should definitely get this game out. It's one of the best system sellers and cash cows the Playstation has.

However, I don't buy that they're really as hard at work as they could, since I remember these news:

http://www.kotaku.com.au/games/2008/11/gran_turismo_5_prologue_running_at_240_fps__3840_x_2160_resolution.html

Looks to me like they were dicking around with technological masturbation instead of focusing on the core game.

I'd rather the graphics be up to snuff then the core gameplay. I play the series purely for its graphics
